my posting privleges have been revoked from freerepublic after 1 post
Someone came on democratic underground who is a conservative and challenged me to go to freerepublic.com. I won't give out his name, because I am being respectful of his privacy. I went on freerepublic and posted under the name "progressive cowboy", because I am a progressive and I am an alum of Oklahoma State (GO POKES!! BEAT TECH!!)

I made one post on the miscellaneous part of their site saying that I am a progressive who is in the military and that I was challenged to go to their site. I said that I wanted to engage in political discussion but I was not interested in calling anyone any names. I try to be as respectful to others even if I don't agree with them.

I tried to comment on someone else's thread, and I got a message saying that my "posting privleges had been revoked". I wrote their webmaster but I haven't heard from them since.

And they say they believe in free speech.

1. That's happened to me as well--if FR ran AMTRAK, the trains would surely
be on time!

I have no idea why my priviliges were revoked--I've read here at DU that they use cookies to monitor people.

2. They, like us, ban the opposition. Neither freeperville or DU are about free speech.
I am glad it is that way. Back in 2001 there was a Dem site that I use to post on and it let freepers post too. All we got done was flaming each other all day. It is better that we have our own sites I think. I would not want freepers posting their bull shit here and I can except them not listening to any of us.

7. But you see lots of threads questioning Murtha here, I never see freeper threads questioning
any Republicans.

16. Sure they do!
Since the election I've seen plenty of them calling Bush** a "liberal" and even suggesting he doesn't belong in the WH. lol, they've got the right idea about where he doesn't belong, but on the 'why' they remain hopeless morans.

17. I agree- no matter what, Republicans defend their own..
any manner of disagreement on FR is deleted by the mods.

They never give the other side ammunition..

Why make it easier for the opposition to squawk?

11. this is true, although I have seen conservative posts allowed here as long as they
are not total asshats.

I just find it funny that they are the first to whine and complain about DU tombstoning them, and they do it more than we do, imo.

5. Freepers live on the idea that all members of the military are Republicans
And as usual, when it comes to facing the truth, their way to deal with it is to deny it exists by trying to hide it away.

6. Free Republic is a tool of the Bush Administration
and no comments are allowed that deviate in any way from BushSpeak. They enforce total control of the message to prevent anyone from thinking for themselves, which would be dangerous to the Nazi-style lock step they like to engage in.

The truth is not allowed on Free Republic.

9. I commented one time....
on a thread about some fundie preacher who packed heat on the altar, and encouraged his flock to do the same in case any muslim terrorists came a calling. Of course they all thought it was a great idea. All I said was "I'm sure that's what Jesus would have done".

10. That would be the first time I've agreed with FR
The same would happen to FR posters who come over here. It's in our rules we don't want them here - I'd imagine its in their rules they don't want us there.

Stay here, jpwhite, your sanity will thank you. :hi:

12. They don't believe in free speech in the slightest
During the South Carolina primary in 2000, RimJob (the owner) purged the site of all pro-McCain posters. Just before the war, he purged all anti-war posters. It's a fascist website, so what do you expect? The only way to survive there as a newbie is to rant about Dimeocraps and Lieberals, and fantasize about rimming our Dictatortot.

14. I think this is hilarious
Thank you for everyone's kind words. I find this situation absolutely hilarious. Someone wrote me and said that if I had the courage I should go to freerepublic and post there. I do it, and then they keep me from posting.

I don't like the idea of calling them facists. I do think that a lot of people in the GOP got their feelings hurt when the elections took place. I also think they are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They don't want to look weak on terror, but they know that we must do something different in Iraq.

As far as my sanity is concerned I get my daily podcasts of the Al Franken show. That helps out a lot. He's funny and informative at the same time. The only thing I don't like is his seranade to Christy Harvey. The only woman that I would be seranading is my wife. Other than that he's great.

I hope everyone has a great thanksgiving. Let us all be thankful we live in a country where free speech is encouraged, and at least we have this web page to talk about progressive ideas.

15. What does the person who challenged say about this?
He/she tried to prove one thing to you and it just proved the opposite.

They have any comment yet?

18. FR's "statement"
I can't find any posting rules as such on their site, but here's a piece extracted (with long-handled tweezers and rubber gloves) from their Founder's "statement":

"Despite the wailing of the liberal trolls and other doom & gloom naysayers, we feel no compelling need to allow them a platform to promote their repugnant and obnoxious propaganda from our forum. Free Republic is not a liberal debating society. We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights, defending yada yada yada..." (sic - or should I say sick)

Translation: dissenting views are not welcome. I think the tone implies just how unwelcome they are.
