MSNBC: "If MUrtha wins they'll spend the next week talking about his ethics problems."
Freakin' media. Talking about something that may not even have happened and it was 20+ years ago.

What doesn't help, however, is that it's being said that Murtha doesn't back ethics reform. If that's true - someone should be telling him he should be coming out for it strongly. It doesn't look good....

6. I agree-the Va. Senate election was a great example of this
In that case both sides did it but Allen took the brunt of the blame for digging up the past (not for his past). The Republicans should have learned that people are tired of this crap from the election but when you have nothing else to run on...well keep running the same play you have no choice.

10. That's what I'm thinking. Also Boehner & Lott have their problems.
And we know the "liberal" media will be sure to balance out their criticism. :sarcasm:

8. "They" are lying on Murtha not backing ethics reform.
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 11:19 AM by stopbush
Yesterday, Murtha said that he supported Pelosi's efforts at ethics reform, but that it was crap that Congress should
be discussing such things with a war on, that the existing ethical standards would work if they were followed and enforced. The
"crap" he referred to was the Ney/Cunningham et al actions that paint all Congress people as ethically challenged.

The media has spun that as Murtha saying that ethics reform was crap. You be the judge.

13. Yeah, Congress has been SO effective at policing itself in the past.
Murtha is an idiot who apparently didn't catch Americans voted Democrats with the corruption as their top issue.

Pelosi's legislation is not just a way to change behavior in Congress. It also helps manage public perception.

If Murtha can't grasp that, he has NO business being a leader of the Democratic Party.

14. And Congress will still be policing itself under any new rules that get
passed under the new Dem Congress.

If your point is that Congress does a lousy job policing itself, then how do new rules make any difference?

15. No, actually there are specific committees that handle that not Congress in general
And the rules allow too much crap like free plane rides etc.

But apparently Murtha and some DU'ers think there's a magic wand that will magically make everyone ethical.

17. Rules won't make anybody ethical either. They will just make it more
difficult to act unethically.

BTW - I support Hoyer for the position. He helped a lot of D candidates this year and desrves to get the nod. I see
Murtha as a continuation of the militarization of everything we do in this country.

Looks like Hoyer just won.

9. Yawn...The Corporate Media Has The Attention Span Of A Flea
Maybe it'll be a runaway bride or vanished blonde white girl or another K-Fed story.

Who said Murtha didn't back ethics reform? Surely not him...check out his interview last night with Tweety. He was misquoted...typical!

Here's the TPM story:

http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001999.php

"What I said was, it’s total crap, the idea we have to deal with an issue like this, when. . . we’ve got a war going on and we got all these other issues," Murtha told host Chris Matthews.

A Roll Call article today quoted Murtha saying of a Democratic ethics reform package, "Even though I think it’s total crap, I’ll vote for it and pass it because that’s what Nancy wants."

Again, your "liberal media" taking liberties with someone's words.

In 24 hours this story won't mean a thing...

11. and if Hoyer wins we'll be talking about his DLC connections for weeks
doesn't matter who wins, somebody, somewhere will find some speck of dirt and exploit it to death..

My interest is and will continue to be to support whoever I think is best for the COUNTRY, for AMERICANS and not who will be best for the "party"

the repubs put their party and bankroll above the country and people - look where that go them.

16. Is Hoyer all that squeaky clean?
It would be just like the Republican friendly media to stir things up for Murtha in order to ensure that Hoyer wins, then bring out even worse charges against Hoyer after he wins.
