GA-12: GOP Shut-Out Is Official As Dem Barrow Wins Reelection
GA-12: GOP Shut-Out Is Official As Dem Barrow Wins Reelection

Yesterday, it finally became official: The Dems pulled off a complete shutout over the Republicans, who didn't pick up a single governorship or seat in the House or Senate. This is now certifiably the case because Dem Rep. John Barrow has officially won reelection to his Georgia Congressional seat (though GOP challenger Max Burns could potentially seek a recount). All the remaining undecided races are for GOP-held seats. Incidentally, Georgia was one of the very few fronts where the GOP was eyeing potential pickups, because a recent redistricting made Barrow and fellow Georgia Dem Rep. Jim Marshall vulnerable. Dems have now won both races.

5. I live in Barrow's district and know him to be a principled legislator
He had an uphill battle after the district including Athens, the left-leaning home of the Univ. of Georgia, was split between two much more rural, MUCH more conservative districts. Bush came down here himself to stump for Barrow's opponent.

When the reddest counties in a very red state vote for a progressive Democrat, you know this election was one heckuva mandate.

12. Joy, joy in Georgia!
We didn't get much to celebrate, but I think this one was a very important win after his district was redrawn. And sweeter still since the chimp came down to campaign against him.

8. Every day is history, but what we have just witnessed is indeed epic.
This sweep is what historians will look back upon as something unbelievably remarkable.
Nice to know that we were here to see it happen. :)

16. Savannah here --- phew.
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 10:52 PM by aikoaiko

Savannah is Barrow's district.

Be warned. John Barrow will make the party leadership unhappy at times.
Hopefully they will cut him some slack so that he can make this very mixed up constituency happy.

18. Republicans are under 200
The dimwits keep saying that the dems don't have that much of a majority, blah blah. Well, the repubs are at 196 in the house. Under 200 and we were over at 202 before the election.
Yeah!
