1. What you up for?
Me, a deli sandwich sounds good. Turkey on Dutch Crunch Roll with all the add-ons.

3. I'm experiencing food insecurity, too.
What is that thing wrapped in aluminum foil in the back of the fridge and can it move under its own power? :scared:

7. I was suffering from very low food security, then I went
to the pantry and found food security in a bag of chocolate Hostess Donettes. I added to this food security a glass of moo security and now my food security crisis is abated...for the moment.

9. Uh oh. My food security just went down.
In the toilet. About 5 minutes ago.

I'm having a drink security resolution right now with a old diet root beer.

Damn clients keeping everything dating back to Feburary of 2005.

Yuck.

10. gonna' take me out to lunch?
not to be funny or anything, but "food security" is an issue with us. Try two people living on $14K/yr. and food security is no laughing matter.

Mmmm, those hot dogs are real tasty. Beats the watery "vegetarian vegetable soup" from the food give away. Canned food is my friend. Pass the ramen noodles, please.

12. kineneb, Have you heard of Angel Food Ministries?
It's one of those faith based things GW came up with. Mostly churches doing this. The church that I was using was evangelical but I didn't feel pressured at all about joining their church or get any proselytizing outside of a God Bless You or two. Guess everyone can use a bless you at times. :)

It's $25.00 for the basic unit. and then there are extras you can buy at a pretty good price. It's all good food, not seconds or generic. It really helps out on the food budget.

There are no income guidelines, everyone can use this service. You can buy as many units as you want, you DO have to buy a regular unit to get the specials. I have found it to be very helpful. My 2 single kids and I go together to get two units and then divide it up between the three of us.

Here's the December menu. DECEMBER
(1) 4 lb. Drums & Thighs*
(1) 2 lb. Italian Lasagna Dinner
(10) 4 oz. Beef & Bean Burritos
(1) 2 lb. Chicken Breast Tenders
(1) 12 oz. Philly Steak Portions
(1) 24 oz. Breaded Breast Filets
(1) 16 oz. Ground Turkey
(1) 16 oz. Cheeseburger Dinner
(1) 16 oz. Pinto Beans
(1) 1 lb. White Rice
(1) 7.5 oz. Corn Muffin Mix
(1) 24 oz. Potato Wedges
(1) 16 oz. Carrots
(1) 16 oz. Cut Corn
(1) 3 lbs. Apples
(1) 12 oz. Omelet Starter
(1) Dozen Eggs
(1) Dessert Item

DECEMBER SPECIAL #1**
1 Beef Combo Box - $18.00
(2) 8 oz. T-Bones, (4) 8 oz. Pure Ground Beef Patties (4) 8oz. New York Strips
DECEMBER SPECIAL #2**
NY Strip Steaks - $18.00
(8) 8oz. Filets
DECEMBER SPECIAL #3**
Holiday Asst. Fruit Box - $24.00
5 Grapefruit, 4 Golden Delicious Apples, 4 Blush Pears, 6 Florida Oranges, 6 Tangerines,
4 Red Delicious Apples, 4 Rome Apples, 4 Navel Oranges, 6 Tangelos
DECEMBER SPECIAL #4**
Holiday Gift (Meat & Cheese) Box - $16.00
(1) 8 oz. Summer Sausage, (1) 8 oz. Beef Salami, (1) 8 oz. Beef Sausage,
(3) 7 oz. Cheeses (Pepper Jack, Smoky Cheddar, Sharpy Cheddar)
DECEMBER SPECIAL #5
Holiday Stuffed Chicken Breast Combo - $18.00
(4) 6 oz. Chicken Cordon Bleu,
(4) 6 oz. Chicken w/Broccoli & Cheese,
(4) 6oz. Chicken Kiev

This is more specials than usually offered. Usually just 3 This month (November) one of the specials was 10 lbs. of chicken, boneless, skinless breast, tenders and nuggets for $18.00 The other two were steaks NY Strip, bacon wrapped filet mignon and sirloins, don't remember how many pounds but these were each $18 also.

Here is the url for the list of AFM sites. http://www.angelfoodministries.com/hosts.asp

Hope there is a program near you and if not, you might want to check with various churches, charities etc. to see if they would be interested in starting a program in your area. I passed the information on to my brother and now his church is offering this too. Nice because it's closer to me than the other.

Sorry to go on so long, but this is a decent program and the word needs to get out. :)

14. Thanks for the info
and their offerings sound great, but there are no sites listed for California! It sounds rather like the "Share" program that was in the SF East Bay for a while.

All we have are the "Gleaners" that give away food each month, and several of the churches that have food pantries. Also, a local non-profit also has a food pantry.

Right now we are OK for food; I have been buying canned and boxed food to stock my pantry. Last year I told Mom that we had to go to a food pantry, and she got really upset. So if we are in need, she will send us a grocery store gift card. But without extra help, buying food and gasoline (needed to get Hubby to all his doctors) would be dicey. His SSDI does not keep up with rising costs.
