Poll question: who has never heard of Hoyer until recently??
I think I saw him on CSPAN a few times, but nothing stands out.

2. I've known about him for a long time
but Maryland is a neighboring state, and I had a friend who worked for him. She thinks he is wonderful.

3. Funny story...I went to DC two years ago with my family...
I was 16 years old at the time and we were getting a tour of the capitol from one of Rep. Bilirakis's staffers. I saw Steny Hoyer walk by and I yelled "Oh my God it's Steny Hoyer!", and the guide was like "yeah dude you really shouldn't know who he is."

BTW the next day I accidentally walked into the "Senators only" elevator and got chewed out. ^_^

4. He has been the whip since 2002
Pelosi and Hoyer were 2nd and 3rd in command under Gephardt, and squared off against each other in 2002, with Pelosi prevailing as leader and Hoyer getting whip spot.

6. He is My Congressman
so yes, I have known about him for awhile. While his style is a little Washingtonian, he's a solid Dem congressman for most purposes. While there are some other candidates I might have preferred, I am comfortable with Hoyer as majority leader.

7. I've known of him since watching C-SPAN when Clinton was
president in the early 90's and I started to finally pay attention.
