More On Clear Channel Sale...Markets To Be Sold
Here's a prospective list of the markets which could be sold should the Clear Channel/Bain deal go through:

Most of these markets Clear Channel owns several stations. This isn't a done deal as Clear Channel reserves the right to look at other proposals before Jan. 5.

3. Could Be Both...
Sorry to be conditional, but there's a lot of loose ends and strings on this deal that have to be sorted out.

It appears that at least 450 radio stations will be sold...mostly in small markets, that could either help seed new local radio operations...or the stations could be sold to another large conglomerate (Google's name has been mentioned)...or the stations could just be shut off to protect the market value of the remaining Clear Channel stations.

The fact the company is selling is a sign of how messed up the radio and TV industries are right now. The owners are trying to golden parachute themselves out and might have found a "savior" in Bain (see the other posts on who Bain is). This also could force other companies, like CBS, to make similar moves and have a ripple effect throughout all of broadcasting...the result of too much "de-regulation" that turned radio into another financial basketcase like the airlines.
