Eek.. John Edwards better be more careful
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 03:12 PM by SoCalDem
I wonder how long it will be before this "percolates" into the corporate media.. It kind of started there, but I musta missed it..

WARNING.. this is from a rightwing site.. But it's so very much like the swiftboaty stuff that oozes into other venues, and before ya know it,...it's everywhere..

Olbermann Highlights Edwards 'Shoot Dick Cheney' Joke

Posted by Brad Wilmouth on November 15, 2006 - 22:44.

snip....

Less than five months after depicting the image of Rush Limbaugh as the target of gunfire during his Countdown show, on Wednesday's show Olbermann included a joke about shooting Dick Cheney during the regular "Top Three Sound Bites" segment of the show.

One of the featured clips was from the Tuesday November 14 Daily Show with Jon Stewart in which Stewart asked his guest, former Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards, whom he would have "accidentally shot in the face" if he had been elected Vice President, to which Edwards responded "Dick Cheney."

snip...

(Transcript follows)

Below is a transcript of the relevant portion from the November 15 Countdown show:

Keith Olbermann: "But first, here are Countdown's 'Top Three Sound Bites' of this day."

Jon Stewart: "Senator Edwards, if you had been fortunate enough to be elected Vice President in 2004, who would you have accidentally shot in the face?"

John Edwards: "Um, Dick Cheney."

2. He was sitting in
The Seat of Heat.....love to see all the questions/answers for that portion of the show. I thought the interview was a joy to watch, I did, however, feel that Jon has a man crash on Edwards.

9. Well, Edwards is strikingly handsome...
It wouldn't be difficult to develop a "man crash" on him.

18. LOL..."man crush" :)
It was definitely funnier to watch that, somehow reading the transcript lacks that coyness of the "joke" between Jon and John :D

4. MSM tends to ignore Edwards
If Edwards did shoot Cheney in the face, headlines would read "Cheney shot in the face", any mention of Edwards would be buried in one of the later paragraphs.

13. What planet do you live on?
All I heard for months was how wonderful he was...

I'm sorry - I think he's where he's at today because the media fawned on him and through no real accomplishment of his own.

6. Why? Is Dick going to "accidentally" shoot him for making a joke?
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 03:24 PM by Der Blaue Engel
Funny thing; the Republicans managed to accidentally shoot themselves in the face this election. They need to stop throwing stones at their own glass houses.

7. Please ... Cheney's popularity ...
is at something like 19% ...

Even the right wing propoganda machine can't fake enough indignation to make anything out of it ...

10. The Corporate Media will twist & turn any statement by a Democrat
into something horrible. Even Edwards joke on Jon Stewart's "seat of heat." And Kerry's slam against Bush, which they turned into a slam against the troops.

And Every Freakin' Thing that Al Gore said in his presidential bid in 2000.

It's not about the Democrats being more "careful" about what they say--the Corp. Media will turn ANY random thing they say into something horrible.

No one is immune. Not Clark, not Obama, not anyone.

22. You hit it on the nail, Lex
All this feigned outrage makes me nauseous. Welcome to the age of YouTube. You know two can play this game, though. We need to HIT every Republican when they say anything that may be construed the wrong way. All that will do is dilute the gaffes and make them irrelevant, which they most certainly are.

11. I read about this before I saw it. It wasn't so funny to read it. But seeing it
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 03:45 PM by PeaceProgProsp
it was very funny. It was the timing and the phrasing.

The joke was in the asking of the question, because you laugh about Cheney having shot a man. Then to flip it around and reverse the position of the person everyone was thinking of as pulling the trigger...that was a funny image that was even more amusing than the question.

Edwards doesn't need to worry about this at all.

14. It was posted all over here - there's no problem
Likely the Republicans didn't need fake outrage. Several people said good answer.

I think either saying he's a better shot than that or he doesn't drink and hunt. If he wanted to pick a person "OBL" is a better choice.

23. Because that joke is worse than ACTUALLY shooting a man in the face?
Should be the comeback if they try to use this against him.

I don't think it's gonna get much play, just because
ANYTHING that reminds people of Cheney's reckless
gunfire incident is a taboo subject for the corporate
propagandist media whores.

25. Like a botched war is worse than a botched joke.
And still Kerry is getting trouble from the MSM. Nobody seems to have their priorities straight. With Kerry off the stage, and Murtha sidelined, all I'm reading now is about 20,000 MORE troops going into Iraq. We need to get back to our message and to hell with all this silliness.

Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 09:46 AM by myrna minx
My gawd, it was a joke. If you saw it, it was obvious that it was a joke. I'm sure, if you read the transcript, it would give the impression that John Edwards has a "shower cam" at: http://oneamericacommittee.com/ as well.

:eyes: I guess the right wing is humor impaired.
