Is there an attempt by those in power to reconfigure our government? If so, toward what model?
One things seems certain to me. We will not simply go back to 'the way things were' now that Dems are in power, even if we could. Nor even with the presidency in Dem hands. There is evidence of much bigger changes, even as our attentions are kept preoccupied by more immediate concerns.
This is unfolding in Iran (a federalist model) but something similar is brewing right here at home. However, WE THE PEOPLE are not knowledgable participants in the new model. The GOP has made fast work of gutting the status quo of our existing governmental model, though I think both parties are working for the same basic changes. If so, what do they have in mind for the U.S.?:
Iran's vice-president resigned over differences with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad following the president's decision to promote federalism in Iran, the Fars news agency reported Thursday.
Farhad Rahbar, who also acted as head of the Planning and Budget Organization (PBO), resigned from his post and was replaced by the 49-year-old Amir-Mansur Borqei, who had previously served as deputy energy minister.
An internal dispute had broken out last month in Iran over Ahmadinejad's new policies promoting federalism.
The background of the dispute is Ahmadinejad's order to transfer provincial budget planning to the provinces and their local officials rather than leaving it to be managed by the PBO in the capital Tehran.
The new policy is aimed at realising a long-overdue plan to decentralize political and economic decisions, a plan that has repeatedly been discussed - both before and after the 1979 Islamic revolution - but never implemented.
Decisions for the provinces could not be taken in Tehran, Ahmadinejad said Tuesday in a press conference in Tehran, adding that centralization was to blame for migration from the provinces.
While warning of the consequences of transferring the PBO's authority to provincial governors' offices, Rahbar called on Ahmadinejad to revise federalism policies until thorough investigations were made and the pro and cons carefully evaluated...cont'd
