Will Dems have a chance to redistrict anywhere
during the next two years?

What are the rules around redistricting?

1. Don't know
But there should be a law that districts can only be a rectangle or square.

2. They Could
Any state where the governor and legislature are controlled by the Democrats could redistrict ... the Supreme Court ruled that the ten year rule doesn't apply anymore ... Thanks to Tom Delay.

So, they could -- but it would be wrong.

Democrats have to show they can "govern" -- not engage in partisan politics like redistricting, impeachment, cutting the money for Iraq, etc.

9. But...
Democrats need to fight for equitable distribution of electoral districts, otherwise millions of voices will never be heard at the voting booth.. That's not partisan politics, but it is a part of responsible governing.

If we let them, Republicans will Gerrymander their way to the majority.

3. If they do their jobs well, they won't have to re-district. They will be re-elected
just for being competent and successful.

5. You think it would be wise to pull the same crap Tom Delay did?

7. How about simply undoing some of the crap Tom Delay did?
It doesn't have to be done using the same methods but at least restore some districts so they make sense geographically.

8. It has to be done by the states.
The federal government can't do it.

With TX having a Republican governor it will never happen.

6. I sincerely hope that they don't.
We don't need to go down that route. Conceivably, we could have redistricting anytime one party gains control of a state's legislature and governorship. It would throw the whole process into chaos. The Supreme Court allowing Delay to pull that shit in TX really opened a can of worms that should have never been opened.
