SCREW THE PLEDGE! (No Offense to Moore Or The Witch), LET'S GET'EM
I call for the immediate drafting of the following legislation:

American Defense Bill
- This law will define being American as anyone born in America except Republicans.
- This law will grant Amnesty to those Republicans who immediately join the military and go overseas to help clean up Iraq.

Protect American Marriage Bill
- This law will make it legal for any two Americans to be legally married (regardless of sex).

Health Care for America Bill
- All Americans will receive free health care.

Adaptive Military Commission Act (Ammendment to the MCA)
- The amendment will restore habeous corpus and other protective rights back to Americans. The ammendment to this law will only apply to Americans

American Security of Borders Bill
- This law will make it illegal for Republicans to be within American borders (unless they were granted amnesty by enlisting in the Military)

That's all I can think of, please add your legislative ideas to the list (keep in mind the definition of American).

3. The Foreign Citizen's Protection from Americans Bill
-If an American Commander in Chief, Secretary of Defense or any other civilian official gives an illegal or fraudulent order which kills, injures or displaces innocent citizens of another country, impeachment and civil trials MUST be undertaken. Minimum sentence - 25 years and financial restitution to the victims or survivors.

The court will make provisions to provide a tired, overworked, underpaid and cynical public defender for the defendant's legal representation.

4. WAIT! you forgot something...
the public defender must have an EXTREMELY heavy case-load at the time... Let's give them the same fair chance in court that other Americans have... I want to see some REAL equality for a change.

5. Here are my items to add to the pledge
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 06:00 PM by IanDB1
1) Anyone convicted of a bias/hate crime will be forced to marry a person of the minority group they attacked, once prison time is served. For example, gay-bashers will be forced to get gay married, at the end of their prison term.

2) Ban the color red from the American Flag. It is now Blue and White only.

3) Change the FCC decency laws-- the word "Bush" is now one of the "Seven Deadly Words" you can't say on TV. It replaces the word "Tits," which shouldn't have been on the list in the first place.

4) Allow individuals to choose between being paid with money that says "In God We Trust" or "E. Pluribus Unum," but the "God money" will be worth 10% less than face value. The "Godless Money" will bear the image of a Rainbow flag.

5) Every year, on On May 26, there will be a national holiday which we will celebrate by burning The Confederate Flag.

6) In fact, the burning of the Confederate Flag will replace fireworks as a tradition of many other holiday celebrations, and as a feature of other rituals. "Happy birthday! I brought a Confederate Flag to burn! Happy Mother's Day! Here's a Confederate Flag to burn! Good Yuntif! I brought you a Congederate Flag to burn! I'm sorry about your loss... here's a Confederate Flag to burn."

7) Before a President can be sworn into office, he must prove that he can successfully chew and swallow a pretzel without choking. He must also demonstrate an ability to ride a bicycle.

8) Congress can be as pro-gun as they like, so long as all metal detectors and armed guards are removed from government buildings.

7. Why should marriage be only 2 people?
I find it endlessly fascinating that most DUers can get their heads wrapped around gay marriage but not around polyamory when it's practiced by consenting adults and not religious nutters.

8. What you want is contract law extended to marriage.
Each and every polyamorous grouping would have to determine their respective rights individually. They'd have to define what that relationship means individually. It's very complex.

I'm all for it. But one blanket marriage law isn't going to do it.

Remember, most polyamorous groupings are not completely polyamorous. A group of two men and two women might actually more closely resemble one man married to two women, concurrent with one man married to two women, while the two women might be married to both men and each other.

Perhaps we don't pay much attention to the discussions of polyamery because the advocates don't delve deeply into the discussion in the first place.

10. I'm just curious...
why your hypothetical grouping didn't include the two men being married to each other. Almost all of the poly men I know personally are bi.

13. Curiosity Addressed:
I was trying to drive home how each grouping would have to be examined individually.

The one polyamorous multi-sex group that I was pretty close with in college were two bisexual chicks, one bisexual guy, and a straight guy, and was structured pretty much like the example I presented (running with what one knows I suppose). I've known quite a few gay-guy, gay-guy, gay-guy groups in full polyamery, but I didn't think that would demonstrate the point as well. And of course, the stereotypical expression of polygamy (not a term that most polyamorous groups I know liked, btw) involve an even more severe separation of the marriage, basically into parallel but distinct marriages.
