TIME's Person of the Year poll up
http://www.time.com/time/personoftheyear/2006/walkup/

I'm not satisfied with any of the choices, frankly. What the hell did Kinofaliar do this year that was so significant?

Is there a write-in we can submit? How about "the American Voters"?

1. Al Gore by a distance
the planet finally woke up thanks to An Inconvenient Truth.

The U Tube Guys also deserve consideration.

2. It's definitely gonna be the YouTube guys
The other choices are a bit ridiculous.

YouTube wins, hands down. From Macaca, to that video about the woman who lost her son because of defective seatbelts. YouTube wins, no problem.

8. Yep. That's what I would say.
She is the puhlic face of the new Democratic majority in Congress. The first woman Speaker of the House should merit Person of the Year.

9. I voted for Al - he is currently running 4th and
one percent behind Bush. Youtube first, Pelosi second, Bush third and Gore 4th.

If all of the adults in the world voted it would be Al Gore by 90%.

11. I voted for Al Gore, but not just for this year,
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 06:07 PM by Uncle Joe
it's a cumulative effect. I believe Al Gore empowered the people when he championed the internet while in Congress strengthening democracy more than any other technological achievement since maybe the printing press.

His reward by the mass corporate media was to be trashed, slandered and ridiculed. It's way past time for the media to make amends, apologize and give the man his due.

This of course does not even touch on his pioneering efforts to save life as we know it from the catastrophic effects of global warming. For me this alone is worth Time's Person of the Year a million times over. I mean after all how much are the lives of the families and friends of Time's employees worth?

12. Least they have a better list than Texas
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 06:18 PM by rainbow4321
Dallas Morning News let's it readers send in suggestions for Texan of the Year.
Some on the TX list:

James Baker III
Ken Lay
Tom Delay
Laura Bush

Keep in mind that past winners chosen by the editors have been chimp and then the next year Rove (because, they said, they didn't want to pick chimp 2 years in a row--and then they picked Rove over the "Texas soldiers"
submission).

This year's readers' suggestions so far:
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/opinion/texanofyear/stories/111406dneditoynominations.3a02f230.html

They're criteria:

A Texan (or Texans) who has had uncommon impact; who exemplifies the Texas traits of trailblazing, independence and staring down adversity; and who has affected or influenced lives."

Though Gore is an intriguing choice.

Still, the election is the top story of the year, and Pelosi is a trendsetter.

What the hell is Condoleeza Rice doing there? Or Bush, for that matter?

21. gotta go with gore
We has earned world-wide respect with his global warming initiatives. He has showed the whole world that we are not all ignorant. if he wins, maybe he will more seriously consider making another run for pres in 2008.

not enough time has passed in the year for a Pelosi vote. IMHO

29. PoY has been a joke ever since they snubbed bin Laden.
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 08:33 PM by Kelly Rupert
Osama bin Laden singlehandedly changed the course of world history. Rudy stood next to some rubble and posed in front of flags. Clearly one of these men should have been the Man of the Year--keeping in mind that it is not an "award," but is rather a recognition of the person who defined the year most, for good or for evil.

Also snubbed: Ken Lay and Enron in 2002. Steve Jobs would have been an excellent choice as well.
Also snubbed: Wolfowitz, Kristol and Rumsfeld (or just The Neocons) in 2003.
Also snubbed: Karl Rove in 2004.
Also snubbed: Everyone in the world in 2005, as they were more important than a few rich bastards who decided to donate an insignificant percentage of their fortunes to publicity. Realistically, this one should have gone to Mother Nature.

So far, this is a 5-year Idiotic Choice binge they've been on. I'm not keeping my sights high.
