Skinner and DU appreciation thread - let's be positive

[The Straight Story]

If it wasn't for Skinner starting DU I would probably still be a stark raving mad asshole of a freeper.

If it wasn't for you all posting here day in and out, who knows what I would be like.

We won, progress is slow but sure.

And while we bitch and moan about each other here at times, I am damned thankful we have a place like this to do so on.

Unlike the robots at FR we fight over things - we discuss, debate, and educate. And a big reason we have such an open forum is Skinner and his hard work (and YOU for being here).

I was only able to donate $25 this time, I wish it were more. This fund drive I hope we can rocket past the 1000 mark as soon as possible, to show our appreciation to Skinner and each other for the hard work and dedication of all DU'ers this election season.

I know I am not always the most easy to get along with guy, and I have issues with some in our own party and here. But I am really grateful to be able to be here and disagree with you on some things.

Here is a young guy busting his hump (along with Elad and others) to keep this place running well for all of us. And he and the Mrs. have a baby on the way.

I just wanted to take some time out from bitching and moaning and thank you all in a positive way. You kept me sane in my worst of times - and I was so damned happy to be here election night with you I cannot even describe it.

You have been here for me with all I have went through with my wife and her illness, and Skinner has put up with my whiny ass. Sitting here alone tonight worried about my wife I have found comfort here with friends. Most my other friends are dead or thousands of miles away.

Thank you to Skinner and to you all - now let's show them asshole freepers how a fund drive is done!

Having a forum where you can compare how you are feeling with the masses tends to help one maintain a sense of stability. I was so depressed over the 2004 election, I couldn't even believe we would ever be able to save the U.S., but I now see light at the end of the tunnel. I truly believe that groups like DU have made the difference.

13. my college anti-war site was hacked by reactionary lunatics

and I desperately searched for someplace to go...and I found DU!!! For some reason, conservative hackers tend to be obsessed with their large collection of gay pornography and post it on the sites they hack.

It was so nice to have this wonderful community of well-meaning and surprisingly organized progressive minds. DU has helped me retain my sanity in a world gone mad. And it's entertaining and though-provoking too.

I appreciate Skinner, Elad, EarlG and the mods of DU who have made this community for us and kept it free of extremism. If you look around at other online forums, DU really is top-notch. These guys spoil us.

The site has grown and matured beautifully, and it's been a major factor in keeping me sane during some of the darkest times I've ever known.

Big thanks to Skinner, Elad, et al for everything they've done. The phrase "above and beyond" is inadequate to describe their good efforts in making DU the awesome site that it is.
