Where we stand…
2000 thru 2006 was the smash-and-grab far right era:
. Foreign policy was turned over to Big Oil and Military Suppliers
. Taxes on the wealthy were cut to the bone.
. The polluters wrote environmental policy.
. And on and on.

Now, while this had tremendous short-term benefits for the wealthy, it, in essence, kills the goose that lays the Golden Eggs. It can’t be sustained and they know it. A majority of retired military have come right out and said that the morale of the military is so low that the military actually faces total collapse. And the public’s opinion of the military as a career is so low that military recruitment commercials are now trying to convince parents that it’s OK for their kids to enlist. I’ve NEVER seen that before.

And it was all made possible by corrupting the integrity of the election system. Before this election, most people in this country took it for granted that their votes would probably not be fairly counted. Again, unprecedented in America.

So, of course a correction was due. But let’s not kid ourselves. Structurally, the wealthy still control the Media and the counting of the votes. I don't think we have witnessed The People taking back control of the government. I fear we are witnessing a Blue Dog Democrat attempt to cut out the worst of the corruption and thus rescue the conservative revolution.

Maybe someday we’ll cleanup the election system. Maybe we’ll restore fairness to the Media. Maybe we’ll return our attention back to building a full employment economy based on enlightened technology. But we’re not there yet.

But, hey, at least the smash-and-grab era is over.

1. Yep
There's work to do. We got over one hill, but there be mountains ahead.

People are still scared. Hopefully they will be able to relax a bit now that we are on a different course.

All said and done, I never saw so much interest in a midterm election. The Dem GOTV movement bodes well for 2008, we just have to prove the new course is gonna make everything better, but then that is what was promised us, eh?
