I clearly remember one particular type of kid nobody liked back in junior high. (Or middle school or junior high or whatever sixth, seventh and eighth grades were called when you were there.) That was the kid who was always trying to cause a fight between two other people. We called that kid a “shit-stirrer.” He would never get into a confrontation himself; he was too much a coward. And, although I’m using a male pronoun, the shit-stirrer was occasionally a girl. Ever wonder what happened to those geeks? For the most part they grew older and became Republicans – the most obnoxious of the lot becoming Republican politicians.

Some of them became political pundits for CNN, Fox and MSNBC. And, since the recent mid-term elections made it clear Americans had had enough of Republican lies, immorality, war, and hypocrisy, a number of the shit-stirrers have appeared on our television screens screeching and drooling about what they see as the Democratic Party leadership sunk in disarray and stuck in serious in-fighting as it sorts out and decides who will serve and who will eat. They want to see a fight. Pelosi? Murtha? Dean? Hoyer? Carville? Hey, any two will do.

What these sorry pundits and still pre-adolescent Republicans cannot understand is this is the way democracy works. Most – if not all – the Conservatives, and certainly every last Republican, is shocked at the democratic process they are now watching inside the Democratic Party. The Republicans never question their leadership, whether that leadership is political, societal or religious. They simply follow, no matter how deep the corruption.

Tell Republicans what to do, when to do it, and how to dress as they do whatever it is they are to do and . . . they do it. No questions. No challenges. No rebellion. No thought. And, so today, as the Democrats sort it all out, the shit-stirrers are off in the corners, picking their noses, looking on in envy, their mouths rattling off as much nonsense as they can stuff into a sixty-second sound bite or a three-hour radio talk show; whether it is Wolf Blitzer or Rush (Deaf By Temptation) Limbaugh, or Rush’s play-toy Sean Hannity, or most of the crew at MSNBC or all of the lost boys and girls at Fox, or the rapid-fire blatherers at CNN, there they are: the “shit-stirrers.”

The Democratic Party leadership, meanwhile, continues the business of organizing the future of this nation. We’ll talk about it tonight.
