1. Why would he go to Wal-Mart?
Why not some other store? I think it probably is a bunch of BS.

5. I love this part of that story. . .
"After Wal-Mart this summer hired Edelman executive Leslie Dach as its public relations director and put him on the company's executive team, analysts said the retailer would likely become more aggressive toward its critics."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Notice how "aggressive" doesn't necessarily translate into FACTUAL. Sounds like Wally World is employing someone who went to the SwiftBoaters school of public relations ethics. Now let's see Leslie turn her "aggressive" charm onto the neverending nagging of the fundies - nothing more entertaining than watching two groups of liars trade creative faux stories.

"Wal Mart lies to get revenge," it might reflect the story better.

16. See my above post again. I was editing while you were posting...
The way your headline reads makes it sound as if Edwards was a customer and they revealed his name to get revenge.

10. Interesting.
I mean, why in the hell does Wal-Mart care? What would MAKE a corporation delve so far in the muck that they would issue a statement about this - true or not?

I'm not an Edwards fan, at all, but this whole story is just ODD.

11. wow....bizzaro..
but no customer involved. Seems like someone's attempting to create a "Kerry" kind of buzz in the media...talk about anything but what's real.

Wal-Mart spokesman David Tovar wouldn't name the person who purportedly called on Edwards' behalf. A company statement accused Edwards of not wanting to wait his turn.

12. Maybe Wal-Mart Isn't Lying
an Edwards *staff member* asked a Raleigh, N.C., electronics department manager to obtain a PS3 for the ex-senator's family.

A staff member. Not John or Elizabeth. A staff member.

"Hi, my name is Jane Doe. I work with John Edwards. He would like to purchase a Sony PS3 and I was hoping..."

Now this "Jane Doe" could really have been a staff member. John Edwards asked her to call around and help him get one of these gaming consoles. He forgot to give the explicit instructions, "NOT FROM WAL-MART"

But if that were the case, I think he'd own up to it - say it was a misunderstanding.

Or, it could have been some one looking to undermine Edwards.

There are other possibilities here.

17. Wal-Mart refuses to name the "staffer" after disclosing confidential info.
They selectively "disclosed" confidential info to attack a critic's
credibility without the specifics to back their charges up.

Did Wal-Mart make this up? Does this staffer exist? Was somebody
trying to drop John Edwards' name? If the call really happened,
how did PR get customer order data?

Unless Wal-Mart comes clean, this is nothing but smear.
