Why did the MSM diss Pelosi so bad today - when she made BIG History???
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 10:12 PM by RiverStone
Caught the first 10 minutes of ABC & CBS nightly news tonight. Nancy Pelosi becomes the first woman in our land's history to become Speaker of the House; yet the historical significance was not even mentioned! Instead, Charles and Katie briefly spoke of her Speaker nod, then spent several minutes (with commentary) focused on her "failure of leadership" and questioned her judgment for getting involved in the Hoyer/Murtha vote at all. What a bunch of B.S.

The MSM over exaggerated the negative and under exaggerated the VERY positive; that Nancy will become in January, the first American woman ever to be 3d in line from the Presidency. Who's sour grapes is that?

16. Yes, she will be 3d in line. Defined here...
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 10:21 PM by RiverStone
The Speaker of the House is third in line for the Presidency of the United States. If the President of the United States dies or cannot carry out his office, the Vice President of the United States becomes President. If the Vice President also dies or cannot carry out his office, the Speaker of the House automatically becomes the next President.

The current Speaker of the House is Dennis Hastert of Illinois, a Republican. The expected Speaker of the House for the next Congress will be Nancy Pelosi of California, a Democrat.

17. here's the whole shebang:
Today --- The Presidential Succession Act of 1947 (Amended)

Cabinet officers have been in the line for presidential succession since 1886. So, whenever the structure of the Cabinet changes, the Presidential Succession Act must be amended to reflect the changes. Since the law was first enacted in 1947, for example, the Secretary of War has been replaced by the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of the Navy and the Postmaster General have been removed from the Cabinet, and six new Cabinet departments have been added. The current law preserves the tradition of ranking the Cabinet departments by the year they were founded.

The line of succession is currently:

1. Vice President
2. Speaker of the House
3. President Pro Tempore of the Senate
4. Secretary of State
5. Secretary of the Treasury
6. Secretary of Defense
7. Attorney General
8. Secretary of the Interior
9. Secretary of Agriculture
10. Secretary of Commerce
11. Secretary of Labor
12. Secretary of Health and Human Services
13. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
14. Secretary of Transportation
15. Secretary of Energy
16. Secretary of Education
17. Secretary of Veterans Affairs

23. I love the contortions you go to to avoid admitting being wrong! lol!
She *has* NO claim whatsover (even in a month or so). He *has* ALL claim. If two people die, in a month or so, she *will* have ALL claim.

Sorry - you were just dead wrong, and stupidly so. Quitting while you're behind would be prudent, but that's totally up to you.

The point of my post was to diss the MSM for raging on Nancy. Right or wrong on the 3d in line thing is NO BIG DEAL either way - again please look at the original post. Clueless why ya would bring "stupidly" into it? Chill...

As a relative newbie to this wonderful place we call DU, it seems distraction is a tool some weld with a purpose. I'm learning. The BIGGER DEAL is Nancy's gonna rock and WE have the Speakers seat!!!! With MSM buy in or not...

Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 10:51 PM by BlooInBloo
That bugs me. I want the team I'm on to perform better.

Fine if you're satisfied with low-grade performance, but I personally think we're gonna someday face a team that's better than the one we played a week ago. It would be nice if we were a bit sharper.

EDIT: Put it this way: Better to catch crap here, from me or someone else, than to have a thread on freerepublic talking about how stupid DUers are, and how they don't care about the truth, yadayadayada.

3. One gets the idea that the media consider us the enemy
and that the honeymoon is over, and they are on the attack. I predict this will not change much unless the public makes a massive point to them that they overwhelmingly elected the Democratic Party to lead them, and that the crap is to now stop.

It's "HaHa they're falling apart already" because that is what their bosses want the story to be.

The electorate is restive. They have this powerful "series of tubes" and it's harder than ever before to keep information out of their hands. They're getting "ideas" about things like.. "economic justice" and "populism" and other dangerous notions that threaten the godlike power of the big money guys like them. The next thing you know any old scummy, prole citizen will be sticking their noses where they don't belong.... creeping into the corners where we get our money and special deals and exposing the secrets that always seem to keep us one jump ahead of regulations and oversight..

We just can't have that, can we..

Yeah, she's the first lady speaker.....but they barely notice that. They're on to how much power she has, whether she'll keep it, did she win or lose in this first test.......

Her being a woman is.......yeah, she's a woman......but is she really a powerful woman.....

What I'm trying to say is that if Nancy being the first female speaker isn't the biggest thing in the news........women have arrived....unpacked....moved in......and somebody already knows how we take our coffee. WE'RE HERE! And it's no big deal! Lady, we done done it!

27. I heard just a bit of a conservative radio talking head tonight
talking about the "massive mistake" Pelosi made today. Then, she got a caller who pointed out that it had only been 8 days since the election, and why were they already looking for things to call a "mistake". The talking head replied "Because we're not in power anymore and it's all we've got". I thought that was probably the most honest statement anyone from that side had made in a long time. For a minute, then I remembered that even when they were in power, they spent more time talking about what the dems didn't/could do or screwed up. So, that's not really it either. Actually, it's all they have ever had, and it worked for a while, but it's not even working for all their listeners anymore. That's a good thing. Even they have grown tired of the bashing and the childishness. When MSM follows, we will all be better off.

Oh, one more note about what I heard the talking head say. She was talking about bipartisanship and how she hoped that the dems would reach across the aisle ... so that the President and the GOP could finally get something done. It will take a lot more callers like the one I heard tonight to get her to change ... because, well, that's all she has too.

I remember when all the media were talking about Clinton's "failed presidency",

The big media chose their side a long time ago, and they're sticking with it.
