The Republicans would have held this seat in the write-in election if they had supported Sugarland Mayor David Wallace in stead of Shelly Sekula-Gibbs.

"David Wallace" is much easier to remember and write-in.

1. Idiots.
Texas is a 'voter intent' state: if her name was at all recognizable, she would have received the vote.

3. I think
I think her loss may have had slightly more to do with the fact that she is 100% batshit crazy, rather than her last name.

4. Possibly.
Remember that if you're trying to attract Republican votes then being crazy may not be a drawback, and having a "foreign-sounding" name probably will be, though.

5. One of my conservative friends
says that people inherently distrust women with hyphenated surnames, and that's why many of them aren't elected.
