Iraq will make Black Hawk Down look like a walk in the park.

1. Is this in reference to something specific?
Or just that this is the course the war is taking?

2. They kidnapped for American contractors today
They're in Iraq for security.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - British ground forces and U.S. military helicopters fought with gunmen on Friday in southern Iraq where four American security contractors and their Austrian co-worker were abducted in a convoy hijacking.

It was not known whether the five were still in the area or whether the gunmen were involved in the kidnapping, said Capt. Tane Dunlop, a spokesman for British forces. He said two of the gunmen were killed.

4. Blackwater style contractors?
Looks like it. You serve as mercenaries in Iraq, well, I don't wish you any harm, but presumably you know the risks when you go in.

5. Ask w8liftinglady
Her son is a veteran of the Iraqi war.
He can't hold down a job. He has PTSD. He was in danger of being called back so he joined a merc group because he figured if he was going to have to go back he might as well make the big dollars.
Sometimes it comes down to what choices people have. Iraqi veterans don't have many options.

3. It already has!
It already has.

I remember before the invasion, Saddam Hussein issued a statement telling Iraqi citizens to watch the movie Black Hawk Down and learn the lesson that US troops can be defeated on the streets.

Did the Bush White House think he was kidding? Seriously, who in the HELL could not predict exactly what was coming?

6. I've been expecting it for some time now.
Just ask yourself how much worse could things get and it isn't hard to imagine. Then realize the the master of disaster is still the decider and it becomes almost unavoidable. We're headed for a Custer's last stand scenario on some scale down the road if we don't redeploy.

7. A "Custer Fuck"?
When you mentioned Custer's last stand, I thought of it in more modern terms.

11. Both you and the above poster have an idea..
but it is going to be far worse than either Stalingrad or Custer's last stand....I wonder how they intend to return and also hide the bodies of all our servicepeople??? IS this why the AF was told to ask for an additional $50 million??? Did I not read that our people are surrounded by about 300,000 insurgents??? * wants 20,000 more "men" to be sent to Iraq...but that number is nothing but a drop in the bucket...WE CANNOT CONTROL THAT DAMNED COUNTRY...when IS he going to get it??? WE are in the MINORITY...not them...and to them, we ARE the insurgents...and targets...
