US plans last big push in Iraq

Strategy document calls for extra 20,000 troops, aid for Iraqi army and regional summit

By Simon Tisdall

11/16/06 "Guardian" -- -- President George Bush has told senior advisers that the US and its allies must make "a last big push" to win the war in Iraq and that instead of beginning a troop withdrawal next year, he may increase US forces by up to 20,000 soldiers, according to sources familiar with the administration's internal deliberations.

Mr Bush's refusal to give ground, coming in the teeth of growing calls in the US and Britain for a radical rethink or a swift exit, is having a decisive impact on the policy review being conducted by the Iraq Study Group chaired by Bush family loyalist James Baker, the sources said.

Although the panel's work is not complete, its recommendations are expected to be built around a four-point "victory strategy" developed by Pentagon officials advising the group. The strategy, along with other related proposals, is being circulated in draft form and has been discussed in separate closed sessions with Mr Baker and the vice-president Dick Cheney, an Iraq war hawk.
(snip)
Four-point strategy

· Increase US troop levels by up to 20,000 to secure Baghdad and allow redeployments elsewhere in Iraq

· Focus on regional cooperation with international conference and/or direct diplomatic involvement of countries such as Kuwait and Saudi Arabia

· Revive reconciliation process between Sunni, Shia and others

· Increased resources from Congress to fund training and equipment of Iraqi security forces

1. Oh great another final offensive.
I suppose if we just round up all the Sunnis and kill them we can end this thing. I know, we could call it the Final Solution to the Sunni Problem. I'm sure our good friend Joe Lieberman wouldn't get the irony of it at all.

4. ..The " Last Big Push, " eh? Purely amazing.
----Politically speaking, Bush has not only dug his own grave, but he is now insisting on picking out his own headstone,... complete with epitaph. I hope the democrats scream their bloody heads off about throwing another 20,000 young Americans into a hopeless situation. Gotta make sure the public KNOWS about it, eh?

5. I'm sputtering. "Increase US troop levels by up to 20,000 to secure Baghdad "
Ok. That just caught my attention. This past summer we increased troop strength by about 20,000 in order to secure Baghdad. Having done that, mission accomplished, we are now four months later going to increase troop strength by 20,000 to secure Baghdad. Once that is done, in about four months, we will be increasing troop strength by 20,000 to secure Baghdad. Then, in about another four months, mission reaccomplished again, the new plan for Iraq that will be proposed by the Iraqi Study Group will result in increasing troop strength by 20,000 to secure Baghdad. Repeat and rinse.

The citizens of this nation, having just voted TO END THE WAR NOW, are being told to sit down and shut the fuck up. The administration does not care at all what the citizens of this nation want. It is not as if we live in a democratic republic.

8. Could he make it any clearer?
Bush** doesn't give a shit that the American people just booted his party out of Congress partly over his mishandling of Iraq. He's going to do what he wants -- or what the voices in his head tell him to do.

Someone ought to sneak another bug into his ear during one of his naps and start repeating into it "Bring the troops home..."

13. They like round numbers... 655,000 isn't enough...
They're shooting (pardon the pun) for an even mil.

What a f***g disgrace. They intend on winning this 'war' by going on an all-out killing spree!

I have to take a lot of meds. The pharmacy tech is very kind to me

I count on him. He just shipped out yesterday for Iraq and I'm

be able to quit crying.

17. Which means what?
We make a concerted effort to kill more of the people who have risen up against an illegal occupation of their country? It will be a hundred years until the U.S. gets its soul back. Doubtful that the human race will last that long but that's my best case prediction.

18. Bush is going to keep the troops there until he is removed
from office. He's a psychopath with a purpose.
He may even declare himself dictator for life if we don't "succeed" in Iraq.
