...Thanks to your commitment we won many down-to-the-wire contests and rescued many candidates from almost certain defeat. Without question, your steadfast dedication to the NRCC paid off.

But to muster these victories, the NRCC had to make some very tough decisions. In the end, we were forced to spend nearly $2 million we didn’t have to save key Republican incumbents. That expenditure saved many, many House seats – just not enough.

Without this extra spending our last-minute polling data showed we might actually have lost even more very tight House races. It is that simple. And that’s the only reason we approved these expenditures. Now it’s time to pay the bills. I’ve already cut expenses to the bone. As of November 10th, I eliminated all non-essential operations. But it isn’t enough.

We must raise $2 million by December 15th. Entering the new year owing that much money would spell doom for our plans to get up and running for the all-important “must win” 2008 elections, when control of the White House will also be on the line.
