Holy Crap! The UnaFreeper is out on bail!
Calif. man accused of sending threatening letters out on bond
Associated Press
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/local/states/california/northern_california/16038110.htm
SNIP>
LOS ANGELES - A man charged with mailing more than a dozen
threatening letters containing white powder to celebrities,
politicians and other high-profile figures has been released
on $350,000 bond.

Chad Conrad Castagana, 39, will remain under house arrest while he
awaits trial on charges of sending threats and hoaxes by mail.
SNIP>

Castagana allegedly told FBI agents that he sent the letters
because he did not like the recipients' liberal politics.

Castagana's public defender, Alicia Blanco, said the alleged actions
were unusual for her client, who she said has no criminal history.

:eyes:

He's a public nuisance and should be held for psychiatric observation.

31. Well, I can only say, " good luck with that, Chad"!
The insane woman who sent poisoned cookies to
the Supreme Court got 15 years, even though she
included a note informing them that the food was
poisoned.

It will be interesting to see how Chad's sentence compares to hers.

34. With a NUT like this, that ankle tracker is hardly sufficient security.
It's entirely possible that being arrested was a THRILL
for this guy; that he's finally getting the ATTENTION
he so obviously craves.
As such, he might easily decide that it's time for a
big "blaze of glory" finale. People like him sometimes _DO_,
you know.
And he KNOWS he's looking at serious prison time, so WHAT,
in his twisted mind, does he have to lose?

He should be under SECURE psychiatric observation right now,
NOT sitting in his room at home longing for his computer
and other personal possessions seized by the FBI.

35. You know, he COULD get off scott-free, just like Charles Alfred Dreyling, Jr.
Charlie’s a Pilot!

Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr.

Just when you thought the Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr. story couldn’t get any more ironic, Melissa A. Wabnitz, a journalist for the Norman Transcript, has revealed that Charlie holds a commercial pilot’s license! And I had thought he was merely interested in flying planes. Imagine if the initial headlines were like “Pilot Forgot Pipe Bomb Was in Luggage.” Now that would have been an irresistible story, even for the mass media!

Just yesterday, news was released that Charlie is free to attend aviation classes at the University of Oklahoma this coming Monday. The story can be read at ChannelOklahoma.com, this Airport Business press release, and USA Today. At least one major news source cares. However, Wabnitz really outdid the Associated Press with her extra details in her article “OU Student Faces Aug. 31 Hearing on Federal Charges.” You can read exclusive information regarding what federal agents obtained at Charlie’s residence and news that Charlie’s commercial license may be revoked.

Well, I am really happy that the local news is doing a fine job of reporting this story. They have indeed been on the ball (which is a figure of speech). Wabnitz is an example of an excellent journalist who really does her research and cites her sources properly. After reading her article, I was wondering what you all thought. Do you think that Charlie should be allowed to attend aviation classes at OU? Do you think his license should be revoked? Do you think Charlie should be charged for the other explosives found? Do you think this story just got at least 25% better? My respective answers are maybe, yes (at least for now), maybe, and definitely. Let’s discuss!
