Why is the Unabomber freeper being released on bond?
Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 03:18 PM by Ksec
If he would have had real Anthrax, dozens of people would be dead today?

How is it this dangerous man, gets turned loose on society?

1. Like most Repubs,...
...he's ultimately an impotent, basement-dwelling dweeb who poses no real danger. The problem is when these inadequacies are given power, whether it's just a security guard's uniform or the presidency of the United States.

2. Cause he's not dangerous to THEM
Just to US. If the Repugs thought he was dangerous to Repugs, he'd be in Gitmo.

11. Yes, Unafakapowder!

The OP sounded like the real unabomber was released. The guy that was actually released was the freeper guy who still lived at home with his mother! I bet he is really screwn!

6. His Targets
Since they were democrat and not republican the courts turned him loose. The guy who shot at Reagan, has been behind bars for over 20 years and won't be allowed any kind of freedom. Reagan is dead how can he hurt him now...dig up his grave.

7. It wasn't real anthrax.
What do you want to do, put him in gitmo? He didn't hurt anyone. He's under house arrest and 350,000 is a pretty high bail for an unemployed guy who lives in his mothers basement. He's just pissed off freeper trying to scare people.

Despite the best efforts of the republicans, we still are a country of laws and we still have a Constitution. The courts will handle this.

20. The word is 'terrorize,' not 'scare.'
This jackass is a terrorist - lacking the tools to be an *effective* terrorist, but a terrorist nonetheless. He should have been extraordinarily rendered to Egypt for some *real* interrogation according to the new laws of the United Stasi of America.

8. I thought the law said even if it was fake
anthrax, he has to be charged as if it were real. Just like if someone sells fake heroin, they are charged as if it were real heroin.

10. See with him being released and not charged with terroistic threats
because the stuff he sent was fake. It's okay now to shout fire in a crowded movie theater even though there is no fire.

See how simple it is? Now take your SOMA and smile. :)

12. Pitiful post, just pitiful.
First of all, the littel toad sent a harmless substance, the unibomber sent real bombs that killed and maimed people. He's an idiot, but what indication is there that he presents actual harm? Yes, what he did was criminal, and he should go to trial for it, but trying to compare him to the unibomber is silly.

21. Sorry, far as I know, in the eyes of the law...
sending fake anthrax is the same as sending the real stuff. It is a terrorist act. Hopefully, our great legal minds at DU will help me here.

15. Do we know that he knew it was harmless?
Did someone else, for example, give him a substance telling him it was anthrax which he then sent out believing it to actually be anthrax? In that case, he is a very dangerous person to society.

17. It's Bail Not Acquittal
This dude still will have court dates and could face sharing a cell with Bubba should he be convicted. Remember, innocent until proven guilty. Let the justice system do its thing, I have a strong feeling the UniFreeper will be back in the orange jump suit for a longer visit...like 5 years or so.

The $350G bond and 35G bail (I assume it's 10%) means that someone is vouching that this moron will not flee or try anything stupid or its their bacon on the line as well. Yes, he yelled fire in a crowded theater, but it's not like the judge let him go on his own recognicance...and felt this doofus wasn't a threat. How much you wanna bet, UniFreeper will be watched closely.

Be assured the lawyers at the targets of his little love letters are very atuned to this case and if the criminal system doesn't do their job, the civil courts will.

24. So do you believe if he would have had the real stuff
he wouldnt have sent it?
My point is, this guy terrorised people because of his hatred for them. I have no doubt that he would have used Anthrax, had he a way to obtain it.
Hes a danger to society. He is no different than a murder suspect who is refused bail most of the time.
