Fundies in the military...

I'm curious about the number of fundies in the military. I know the chaplain corps is heavily evangelical these days.... http://blog.au.org/2005/07/evangelicals_on.html ... but I'm wondering about the troops.

In the Marine Corps of my day, the chaplain was just one more fucking officer, and nearly everybody I knew was an atheist in a foxhole.

Anybody have any info about whether the actual grunts believe all that shit?

but I do recall one encounter with a Navy Chaplain when I was in the canoe club. He was a commander just checking in at NAVSTA Philly. I asked him if he were Catholic and he said "son I'll be whatever you want me to be." That's the way military chaplains are supposed to be, not what james dobson and his psychotic followers want them to be. Yeah, there are lots of atheists in foxholes.

because I was baptized Catholic and that Chaplain was Epicopalian but he was a true professional and was respected by all.

I was a devout Catholic as a young buckeroo, altar boy and contemplated the Priesthood until I discovered Pussy. I was in a combat arms unit (Combat Engineers) and we had the whole gamut of racial, political and religious. Some were evangelicals, most (obviously) weren't. But we all got along because fist and foremost we were green.

during my Chief's "Training" sessions a long, long time ago a grizzled old Master Chief screamed and hollered at us that there were no black chiefs, no white chiefs, no hispanic chiefs, no catholic chiefs, no jewish chiefs, no baptist chiefs, chiefs didn't have cocks or pussies - Chiefs were all Khaki in color and what they had were the Anchors that held the Navy together.

No black, white, or brown Marines... only green Marines. Of course, some are darker green than others.... good camouflage.

7. My impression is that the Air Force is pretty much fundie

especially the Academy in Colorado Springs. There have been a number of stories in the past 6 to 10 years about the fundies at the Academy requiring the cadets to attend religious services and so on.

Don't know what the current state is.
