New Senate Minority Leader Threatens Filibusters if Controversial Judicial Nominees Not Confirmed

Senator Mitch McConnell:
Forty-nine is not a bad number of Senators to have, in a chamber that requires sixty to control. And I can assure you that our Democratic friends will give President Bush's judicial nominees a floor vote - if they want to get anything done, in a chamber that requires 60 to control.

2. No, Mitch, we demand an up or down vote, no filibusters.
:eyes: Does that sound like anyone in recent memory?

5. Fortunately, the "up-or-down" quote is recent enough...

10. What good would it do to filibuster for a nominee who's rejected?
You filibuster to keep someone from being confirmed, not to GET them confirmed, right?

11. Sounds like they're threatening to filibuster other things
Good. Let them filibuster funding for the troops or the minimium wage raise.

They'll lose bigger in '08.

13. And what does Lieberman have
to say about this now? Is that Gang of 14 still going to stop them or was that just when the GOP was in in power? Let's see how far bipartisanship goes now.

14. All these Right Wing Bush Judges
are for one purpose, and one purpose ONLY. To appease their base, and overturn Roe. If you don't believe that, troll the Freepers a few times.

Let's put aside even the Republican Congress losing their majority. I guess that vote in "liberal" South Dakota meant nothing? The people do NOT want Roe overturned, and especially, do not want their contraceptives taken away as "abortifacients".

George W. Bush, Wake Up and Smell the Coffee!!!!!!!!

15. Oh, I don't think so, Mitchy.
The shoe is on the other foot now. As Cats from Zero Wing would say:

"HOW ARE YOU GENTLEMEN!! ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US."
