It's ba-aack!
"Bush echoes his earlier commitment to stay the course in Iraq"

HANOI, Vietnam - Returning to the world stage after an election rebuke, President Bush told foreign leaders Friday that he remains determined to "get the job done" in Iraq.

"We're not leaving until this job is done, until Iraq can govern, sustain and defend itself," he told reporters after meeting with Australian Prime Minister John Howard on the sidelines of a 21-nation summit in Hanoi.

Bush said he assured Howard that the United States wouldn't abandon Iraq as a result of the Democratic takeover in Congress.

"There's a lot of questions, I know, in the press about our troop posture and about the attitudes of our government," Bush said. "I assured John that we will get the job done."

That didn't last long, huh!

1. Do you think he knows
that he contradicts himself at every turn? Do you think he assumes that his various audiences are discreet, walled-off entities that don't communicate or intersect?

Or do you think that he just doesn't think that it will ever have any effect on him?

5. Orwell describes this phenomena:
Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 08:13 PM by FLDem5
"Winston's job was to rectify the original figures by making them agree with the later ones. As short a time ago as February, the Ministry of Plenty had issued a promise (a 'categorical pledge' were the official words) that there would be no reduction of the chocolate ration during 1984. Actually, as Winston was aware, the chocolate ration was to be reduced from thirty grammes to twenty at the end of the present week. All that was needed was to substitute for the original promise a warning that it would probably be necessary to reduce the ration at some time in April."

<snip>
"Day by day and almost minute by minute the past was brought up to date. In this way every prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have been correct, nor was any item of news, or any expression of opinion, which conflicted with the needs of the moment, ever allowed to remain on record. All history was a palimpsest, scraped clean and reinscribed exactly as often as was necessary."

except, they use repetition and pretend the originals don't exist.

4. But he didn't say the WORDS, did he?
And that's what's important, the WORDS.

(God, I love Colbert.)

From foreign invaders, perhaps?
