When, after January 20, 2001 . . .`
did you know things would be worse than you thought possible?

Personally, I knew things could get every bit this bad as soon as I knew the little bushturd was running for president, but then I had a history of sorts with his degenerate family.

Was there a crystalizing moment for you, when you said oh shit this is *really* gonna be bad?

1. When John Ashcroft was appointed Attorney General......
and when the office of faith based initiatives was formed. I told myself, don't worry he's an idiot who'll be thrown out after 1 term, and then 9/11 happened.

:wtf: moment after I stopped laughing that they nominated him. All of a sudden it got really serious. I had known all about the miserable creep from my brother who lived in Texas and after figuring out his father I knew. I sat here like everyone else and watched the unthinkable happen.

Edit for spelling

9. it was a bit like raygun
he used to be a total joke

only crackpots and john birchers supported him

then all of a sudden he's the king of the repukes

same with li'l george--how could any group admire him or have the slightest belief he could possibly take on a serious job, much less the presidency?

14. Exactly!
I could not believe that either. You would think we would have learned but noooooo. We knew but who woulda thunk it? It seemed so hysterical until it was true.

As far as I am concerned Reagan was always a joke, a long terrible joke and not a very funny one at that!

A: "Bullshit!"

B: "Hmm...very seriously bad, BAD bullshit...."

C: "Oh, holy shit."

I went from A to C in about 2 minutes.

13. on the morning of 9-11, I went from shocked disbelief
and rage

to an aha realization that it was the reichstag fire and pearl harbor rolled into one

then, when king george quit running away and had his first appearance in the oval office, he looked like a scared little boy who was in the process of wetting his pants... the media immediately began crowing about his "leadership"-- not one question about the negligence that would have been necessary for such a thing to happen, not one word about how far in over his head the boy king was . . . it was then I realized I was looking at a repuke big brother.

i thought surely enough republicans would fail to support him just as they failed to support dole.
i thought surely enough would recognize him as unpalatably over-the-top right wing.

buuuut nooooooooooooo....

-- to clarify, i meant i didn't think he'd come CLOSE to winning.

7. The Chinese jet incident - April Fool's Day 2001
Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 10:51 PM by Steve_DeShazer
<snip>

On April 1, 2001, Chinese fighters forced an American EP-3E Aries II spy plane, with 24 US crewmen on board, to crash-land on China's Hainan Island, expecting to force Washington to hand over Xu Junping for the crew, especially since Beijing had lost one of its pilots in achieving the forced landing.

The American spy plane, based at the Whidby <sic> Island Naval Air Station in Washington State, was loaded with all kinds of eavesdropping, translating, and communicating systems, and the Chinese leadership was confident that Washington would quickly agree to give up Xu Junping for the most sought-after spy plane, said to be worth $100 million. It had been monitoring the activities of a newly-purchased, Russian-made Sovremenny-class destroyer in the South China Sea - what US Navy brass considered the greatest threat to its carrier-based task forces controlling the area. While Beijing said it would treat the captured spooks as hostages until the defector was handed back, Washington stood firm against any deal, threatening long-term consequences to the Chinese relationship if Beijing persisted in its demands, resulting two weeks later in the crew being returned, but not the precious plane.

A crew of 24 was held hostage. Bush's response? Nothing.

when we started bombing Iraq. I started to cry and had to pull over. To me, if meant that we were being ruled by thugs and we no longer had a system of laws.

16. I still thought he'd be a regular sucky president like his dad until
late '02 and early '03 when it was becoming obvious that we were about to go to war for no discernible reason apart from alarmist conjectures and WMDs plus fantasies about being welcomed as liberators and re-making the Middle East. That's when I realized Dear Leader Shrub Jong Il was not just a shitty president but a genuine monster.

18. The sad part is that it happens over and over again
Every time I think it's as bad as it can possibly get, he does something even worse. I figured he would wreck the economy and ruin our manufacturing base. I knew he would do for corporations what Monica did for Bill. But ignoring (allowing? planning?) the events leading up to biggest terrorist attack in US history? Starting a war based on nothing but lies? Blatantly stealing yet another national election? Maybe you all saw that coming, but I sure didn't.

And even if you were that much smarter than I was, I'm willing to bet that almost everyone was surprised and shocked by the photos from Abu Ghraib. And I'll bet nobody thought that he would let an entire American city drown. Or cheerfully and repeatedly violate the fourth amendment. Or repeal habeus corpus. Or, or, or ...

It just keeps getting worse. And worse. I want to say that nothing would surprise me at this point, but I've said that before and then they keep outstripping my most pessimistic fantasies.

Somebody wake me up when it's over.
