Did YOU DONATE yet??
Come on, guys. You can't tell me that your past Tuesday would have been *quite* so good without sharing it all here... cut one cup of coffee a day for the next week, and give $5 or $10 or however much you can. But you can't say that this place isn't worth some amount to you. Get off your butt and donate! :bounce:

3. Unfortunately, at this time, I can't spare any extras.
Mr. kt's mother was in a car accident and we bought plane tickets to see her. We've had to defer our college loans and rearrange some payments to make it the next couple of months.

This is the first donation pledge since I joined DU a little over two years ago that I haven't donated anything.

Next time we should be at a better place financially.

29. If I did it correctly, you are now a donor. I met you and Mr. KT at
a vigil in Sierra Madre so I'm glad I noticed this post. Next year will be better - hope Mr. KT's mom is ok.

And yes, I do remember meeting you at that vigil.

We must meet up sometime soon!

35. Things have to turn around soon. It's about time.
I had a great job interview today for something that, if offered, I believe I would take. Right now, I just have a part time teaching position. The additional income is much needed right now.

Now, if I can just wait until after Thanksgiving when they notify us without going nuts, I think I'll be ok!

37. I was a marketing database analyst...
...who, among other things, designed, developed, and coded (in then-FoxPro/dBASE) a program our computer-illiterate salesmen used to automatically convert raw data from the Network General Sniffer network analyzer into fancy, color-graphed Excel spreadsheets with which they could impress their equally-computer-illiterate prospects.

That was way back in the 1990s; after that, I worked my way up the I.T. ladder (almost exclusively for medical manufacturers, so I can actually explain echocardiography and harmonic imaging, and even spell ophthalmology without looking it up -- LOL) before the bottom dropped out of Silicon Valley.

Hey, this could be the first online interview conducted publicly on DU! LOL

Seriously, I can't leave California right now. But if you know anybody out this way, I scrub up pretty well. :D

There's an office in Thousand Oaks, CA. Not sure if that's anywhere near you. But if you go to www.Kendle.com and go to Career Opportunities, there's an opening for Clinical Data Associate I. That's the entry-level into the Data Managament end of stuff. You could check it out. I'm sorry that I'm not an HR person or headhunter and could help you out more! Good luck!

I've been spending like a Republican and I am now on a deficit.

I was mad when I realized that I spent most of my "surplus". Obviously I've been doing a "heck-of-a-job" on my finances so now I am forced to "cut and run" from my irresponsible habits. I might be able to donate during the next quarter fund drive.

40. I Did... Had To Make A Decision As To Whether To Give More To
Christine Jennings and her fight down here on not. Gave to DU instead, but I may give some more to Jennings just so this election can go forward. I'm about "busted" because I gave to other campaigns like Webb and others I really wanted to help.

Good thing I pay the bills... my husband might freak!! Not really, he knows I gave during the election... I'll fess up to two more and then "run & hide!"

:hide:

41. I just hope all DUers know there are plenty of us who would love
to donate during every fund drive. Sometimes it just isn't possible and knowing that most DUers understand that helps a lot when times are tight.

I won't be donating this go around but will get back on board (hopefully) during the next quarterly fund drive. Right now I'm helping with a monthly stipend to a granddaughter who is putting herself through college working two jobs and carrying a full load (love my daughter and son-in-law but they are "fundies" who believe that everyone should pull themselves up by their "boot straps" - although I put HER through college - and refuse to help the child even though they make too much money for the kid to qualify for any financial assistance - don't get me started). And my mother is sick and I have been off from work (I freelance) a lot traveling back and forth to take her to doctors and such. As a freelancer if you don't work you don't get paid, no sick leave, no one to hold down the fort generating sales while you are away. Ya know what I mean.

Was talking to a friend who is in sales for advertising for a high end magazine, she has seen her 2006 (despite the "great" economy) income drop dramatically in the last 12 months. Her sales are targeted to the exact people that are actually enjoying the booming economy - the richest of the rich but even they are scaling back on buying. Business that cater to this group are afraid, cutting back, hanging on. We both decided we just know that things will improve over the next couple of years with the Dems with some reins on Congress - at least that is what both of us are hoping for, counting on and really needing. Hope.

42. I Totally Understand... We Care For My Mother-In-Law Who Has
Alzheimer's, been with for over 7 years now. I sat out the last TWO drives because I helped out THREE other families who are having a seriously hard time making it. I know I will never see that money again, but thought I was being helpful. It has gotten more difficult for so many of us. There is a real struggling under-belly going on in America, and even though there has been "some" focus on it, I don't think there has been enough of a spot light there yet!

While I felt I was being helpful to others by dipping into my IRA, they still are not on track... I had to draw some line in the sand because they came back for more. I feel bad that they have to struggle so much, but I gave each one of them a LOT and I am not nor have I ever been wealthy.

I gave this time around because I really really wanted some candidates to win and I want to help change the direction of the country! I can only hold my breath to see if my contributions were wasted or not. Here at DU, I don't think it will be.

44. maybe you didn't intend for it to look
like a guilt post........but....it comes off that way.........some of us.just cannot afford to donate every quarter.......we give when we can........and do our part in other areas......and some of us feel badly that we can not give now......yet everyone knows who gave and who didn't by the "red" I donated banner on their posts........

Just saying.........reminding is proper if done right............don't mean to sound picky....but.....

I'm not terribly a fan of the "I donated" banner either, for the same reason. That's why in my post, I asked people to give what they can. If you can't afford to give something right now, that's ok, too. Peace.
