15. Social security was always pay as you go and always will be |
|
if we don't let the rich men fuck it up. It's the only thing that still belongs to US.
What's happened is that St. Reagan doubled the payments and then used the 50% overpayment from the poorest workers to fudge the books on his tax giveaways to billionaires.
So no, your Social Security is not "all spent," it's insurance, not an investment. What's all spent is Reagan's scam enacting that back door income tax increase on the backs of all us poor slobs who work for a living.

Somewhere between 40-50 you will go from worrying about getting old to worrying about dying, so enjoy your life now!
BTW, I'll be 52 next month, and I've never been happier. :toast:

4. What? You're going to depend on SS? |
|
Aren't you investing in the stock market? Aren't you using IRA's (Roth) and 401Ks, and government bonds? :sarcasm:
According to the pukes, you should be completely self-sufficient on 5.15/hour.:grr:

If they want to dismantle ss, then just give me all that I have paid in over the years. With interest.

11. Social Security as we know it was just saved this month |
|
Junior and his Bush league lapdog Congress were set up for an all out assault to gut Social Security but now that Democrats are in control, that dog ain't gonna hunt.
The best thing that we can do to preserve Social Security is nothing at all. The only 'chrisis' is on the part of those who are trying to prevent the general fund from paying the Social Security trust fund what it owes. If nothing changes the treasury bonds will be repaid just like all other government bonds and Social Security will be fine.
Oh, there's a minor shortfall projected by some accounts. That won't happen until you're about 82, however, and possibly not ever. So adjustments to account for the shortfall, if any, are premature.

12. 42 here - and that's something I'm willing to throw punches over.. |
|
No one should have to work away their entire lives, or worry that if that become ill that they will lose everything, or throw their spouses into bankruptcy if they were to die or be killed.
I hear ya...

Hint: Increasing the federal minimum wage will help continued Social Security solvency.

You're a young'un! I'll be 46 next month, and my husband will be the big 6-0 two weeks later. I'm already dependent on SSDI, so I have very little to nothing. Thankfully, my husband is already getting one pension (and if anything "happens" to him, I'll get 60%, which hopefully not, he's a keeper), and he'll be eligible for another pension in five years. He has been in civil service all of his life...
My big worry about social security is how any reform of the system will affect people with disabilities. It seems that Chimpy has overlooked that. But then again, in his little world crips don't exist.

17. They are touching it and your age group should be worried. |
|
I wrote my Congressman Bill Thomas about this. He is still head of the Ways and Means Committee until he retires in January. (Thank God Charlie Rangel will take his place.) He was very instrumental in all these shit changes on "entitlements" that are being pushed through Congress. He answered me that my Social Security wouldn't be touched, (because I'm an old bat) however, the changes to private accounts would be for citizens about your age and younger.
Social Security is in good shape for future generations including yours. Don't let them get their hands in this cookie jar. They see all that money and are itching to get their paws on it.
