My wife works for the US Census Bureau. During the last year a great deal of press has been made about missing laptops, and other information that has been reported as missing or un accounted for.

Many of you may not be aware of the fact that the unauthorized disclosure of ANY personal information gathered by the Census Bureau is a Felony punishable by 5 years in prison or worse. She personally knows of situations where individuals have been fired or arrested by US Marshals for the unauthorized disclosure of this information.

Her concern is about the privitization of the statistical arm of the Government. Currently the Census Bureau gather the raw data for a wide variety of govenment statistics. Many of those statistics directly impact members of the board. Raw data for which the census bureau collects data include:

Consumer Price Index (CPI)
Producer Price Index
Various Crime Statistics published by the FBI
Unemployment
Business Failures

and many others.

I just wanted to let you know that this is coming down the pike & you might want to think about what this will mean to you as a union employee whose wage are tied the CPI, or if you are out of work, or thinking of starting your own business...
