Odd how a fight in the GOP for leadership goes unnoticed in the news but one in the Dems show how awful Dems are.

Front page NYTimes. I'd give the link but you'll be sorry. She completely trashed Pelosi and the Dems.

Took her just a couple of days longer than bartcop.

I don't agree that we should go in lockstep and cover our sins but really, can't we pick our battles?

1. I saw the headline and teaser
I was really disappointed in just that line. Not so much that she's "trashing Dems" - if they err they should be called on it, too, IMO - BUT - the way she attacked her? Come on! What a sexist thing to say!

2. One of her more obnoxious pieces, for sure. An excerpt here:
Edited on Sat Nov-18-06 10:42 AM by ocelot
"Ted Olson, the former solicitor general and eloquent Republican lawyer who argued the Bush v. Gore case before the Supreme Court, was warming up the rabidly conservative Federalist Society crowd for John McCain with a few sexist cracks about Botox.

The new Congress could amuse itself, he said, by “searching for any sign of movement in Speaker Pelosi’s forehead.” The Senate, he added, would be entertained by “the expressionless, Pelosi-like forehead of Senator Clinton.”

It reminded you of just how idiotic Republicans can act sometimes. The only thing worse than hearing the first female speaker of the House filleted in such a lame way was seeing the first female speaker of the House flail around in her first big week in such a lame way. It reminded you of just how idiotic Democrats can act sometimes.

Nancy Pelosi’s first move, after the Democratic triumph, was to throw like a girl. Women get criticized in the office for acting on relationships and past slights rather than strategy, so Madame Speaker wasted no time making her first move based on relationships and past slights rather than strategy." http://select.nytimes.com/2006/11/18/opinion/18dowd.html

The thing about MoDo is that her goal is high snarkiness. If she can think of something cleverly mean, she'll go for it. There's really not a lot of ideology or principle involved; snark is all.

3. Level the field - apply GOP logic to the situation and Pelosi showed
fortitude and loyalty by supporting Murtha - apply GOP spin and she's a botoxed, inept wanna-be. Please oh please never use the words fair and balanced with any MSM.

10. Oh, please
the "jews control the media" crap is an ugly old meme, and claiming that they control the NYT is patently absurd. That tinfoil hat is a particularly unbecoming one.

5. "Trent Lott, the avowed segregation supporter from Mississippi,
was narrowly elected to the position of Minority Whip in the Senate, demonstrating the Republican party's strategic ambivalence in the wake of their crushing defeat in 2006."

I'm so tired of seeing the "Pelosi is weak" crappola that I am going to mention Trent Lott each time I see it.

Take that, MD.

Ever notice that no-one even mentions Lott at all when discussing the Congressional leadership votes (except here and similar places)? The corporate media is so obvious, it cannot be lost to the average American (who, by the way, saw through the spin and elected the Dems in the first place).

7. I'm very disappointed in all of the media..
It almost looked like they were waking up for a few brief weeks before the election, but apparently they were just throwing us Dems a bone, for ratings.

Fool me once. Shame, shame on.

8. Maureen Dowd Hates Having to Work
and picking on a Democrat isn't "Hard Work"--instead, it's a form of recreation and relaxation for MoDo. And if she can pick on another woman, that's even Better! She has a bad case of Queen Bee syndrome, and as far as I know, there's NO cure.

Now, when she picks on the GOP, she has to have facts, and an edge, and make sense....Because the GOP just isn't funny, it's sick.

9. Yeah, but "Queen Bee" versus the "Queen of Journalists"
was one of the funniest, best things I ever saw on an op-ed page.

She was one of the few who actually took the time to comment on the whole (truly outrageous) Jeff Gannon/Guckert whore/press episode, when most of the rest of the pundits were busy looking the other way. (Which they're still doing. I keep waiting for * to get outed, or for more media whores to be exposed, the way Armstrong Williams has been, or as "government-produced video releases" have been.)

I have to admit I like reading Maureen Dowd, for style points alone, even when I'm not persuaded or enthralled by her point of view.

11. No Question the Woman Can Write When She Wants To
and she wields a wicked knife, but her choice of targets leaves something to be desired. Too often the blood she draws obscures or nullifies whatever point she is trying to make. As a human being, Molly Ivins is superior to Maureen, and she writes better, too!
