Blair accepts 'disaster' in Iraq
Edited on Sat Nov-18-06 11:11 AM by FLDem5
Tony Blair has publicly agreed with the opinion that the violence in Iraq since the 2003 invasion has been a disaster.
The UK prime minister was responding to a question by Sir David Frost in an interview on the new al-Jazeera English-language Arabic TV channel.

The Liberal Democrats said Mr Blair had finally accepted the enormity of his decision to go to war in Iraq. But Downing Street insisted his views had been misrepresented and that he had not made "some kind of admission".

But BBC political editor Nick Robinson said Mr Blair's agreement indicated he knew there was "simply no point any more arguing with interviewers".

"Tony Blair knows that's an argument that has already been lost," he added.

Can you imagine Bush or Cheney fessing up to that? Neither can I.

1. Crossword clue, Tony: "Statement of regret, five letters, begins with 's'".
It's too late now to make any difference, but maybe you'd feel better about yourself.

3. Is he completely blind or supremely evil? This minority that wants war...
...the Al Qaeda-backed Sunnis and the Iran-backed Shia, hate us as much as--maybe, more than--they hate each other. And the majority that wants peace hates us, too. That's neither a majority nor a minority. That's a consensus.

We're not over there fighting against a warrior minority for peace in the Middle East. We're over there to control the region's natural resources. And, unless we can install an iron-fisted puppet regime, direct military control is the only route to that objective.

And the Republicans and neo-conservatives in this country actually loathe the economic philosophy that they purport to believe in. They have no intention of allowing capitalism, free trade, or the global marketplace determine who gets those resources and at what price. Why should they have to rely on abstract forces and theories, when they can get this country's poor and working class citizens to sign up for military duty by keeping us in economic servitude?
