Global Gag Order Means Removing Universal Birth Control

One of the first thing we should do when we take back Congress in January is to start work on reversing The Global Gag Order to reinstate U.S. funding to International Planned Parenthood.

Signing that “Order” was the first official act of George W. Bush when he took office in January, 2001. What was its purpose? To save the babies of the world to appease the religious Right? I really don’t think so. I think the original purpose was to ensure world wide corporations a never ending supply of cheap labor.

As usual with Bush administration policies, the plan has backfired. When I look at Third World Nations today, I can’t help but wonder how many babies President Bush is responsible for bringing into the world who have ultimately starved to death.

2. I do agree
but how in the world will we ever get this done when our own country has as our new leader of our family planning a Doc who thinks contraception is an insult to women?

I remember being furious when this happened but furious was followed by more furious and I had forgotten this first furious. Thanks for reminding me, now I am furious about it again.

3. I've been sneered at on DU for being not being Liberal enough
BUT when it comes to birth control, etc. DON'T EVER back me in a corner.

We are SOMEHOW going to have to reverse this situation. Keep in mind, Bush is our president for two more years. I think some of us, in their elation of taking back Congress, are forgetting that point.

WE've got some serious work ahead of us.

4. Yes we do
and I am afraid much of it will be with our own party. We will see. I am not overly confident that things will change much. I am beginning to lose patience but will hold off and give them a little time.

Birth control has to be a right and it has to be easy to get.

I find as I get older there are many issues that I will hold as my line in the sand. This is one, so is equality for all, abortion I could go on but I won't. It makes it very hard.

5. I knew the major fight would begin following the election
particularly if we won and we have. You know we Democrats are very much like the American Indian - we are all of one group but very much divided.

6. Withholding information should never be a function of government!
This institutionalizing of sexual hangups is a total disgrace.

7. I still maintain this Order was never signed pertaining to sexual hangups
It was signed to ensure a world supply of cheap labor for world wide corporations - Wal-Mart for one! But as usual - it back-fired!!!

8. I don't see a shortage of poor people.
Could they really think that? I'm sure there are more people that just think sex is evil. Or, more exactly, rationalize it because they think they don't do it so well.
