Vote for Your Top 3 Human Needs Priorities for the New CongressRemember: the Polls Close on Monday, November 20
Please
vote and forward this request to your networks and friends.
Last week, voters sent a clear message that they want change in our nation’s priorities. Many candidates were elected who focused at least in part on providing more opportunity and economic security to millions of low-income Americans. Exit polls confirmed that many voters do not feel they are benefiting from American prosperity. They want Congress to act on behalf of the public good, not narrow special interests. But the election is only the beginning – we must now work to make sure that Congress takes genuine steps forward.
Please help the Coalition on Human Needs as it prepares its agenda for 2007. Although we work on many issues, CHN provides leadership and encourages action throughout the human needs community on a few top priority items. CHN’s Board makes the final decisions, but we need your advice. We want to focus our efforts where you feel they will do the most good. We want to know that thousands of advocates agree the issues are important enough to justify action.
We have compiled a list of 10 items – please share your views by voting for your top 3 choices on the “ballot.” If we haven’t listed one of your top priorities, you’ll have a space to enter it. We know – it’s hard to pick just three. But if we all work together on a few items, we can win.
For a description of the 10 items, go to:

http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/chn/questionnaire.jsp?questionnaire_KEY=223. Please forward this email to your network(s) - we want a broad response we can learn from. Remember: the deadline is Monday, Nov. 20.
Why are your responses so important? They will help CHN’s Public Policy Committee and Board to decide on the 2007 top priorities. We will publish the results on our website and publicize them to our email network. Your choices will guide our actions.
Thank you for your participation - with your help, we can win in 2007.

About CHNThe Coalition on Human Needs (CHN) is an alliance of national organizations working together to promote public policies which address the needs of low-income and other vulnerable populations. The Coalition's members include civil rights, religious, labor and professional organizations and those concerned with the well being of children, women, the elderly and people with disabilities.
CHN Member Organizations:
http://www.chn.org/about/chnmembers.htmlHistory of CHN Founded in 1981 by organizations concerned about President Reagan's proposals to consolidate targeted federal funding for human needs programs into block grants, the Coalition has since expanded its work into other issue areas. The Coalition promotes adequate funding for human needs programs, progressive tax policies and other federal measures to address the needs of low-income and other vulnerable populations.
The Coalition serves as a clearinghouse of information on poverty and human needs issues for our members and the general public. CHN publishes a bi-monthly legislative newsletter, The Human Needs Report; legislative analyses, issue briefs, fact sheets, action alerts and other informational materials. We also sponsor educational seminars and briefings on issues of concern to the human needs community such as our annual Budget Briefing and a variety of issue specific briefings.
CHN convenes meetings, forums, and working groups of our member organizations to share information, forge consensus positions, and develop and implement collaborative strategies on public policy issues. A cornerstone of this activity is our CHN Advocates' Meetings held every other Friday while Congress is in session to discuss the latest legislative developments.
