32. Probably although some stockings hide them. |
|
I also wear pants most of the time. I don't want people looking at my legs. Also pants keep you warm and when you wear pants you can wear knee-highs rather than stockings. I love wearing a pants suit also because I'm short, and I have the stupid idea that I look taller in a pants suit. Also, if you sit down, your skirt rides up. It's OK if pants do that. I've seen pictures of some prominent women wearing skirts that showed far too much leg -- accidentally. Think Katherine Harris.

You know, my husband actually has lovely, slender ankles. That have always given him problems. Mine, while less lovely, hold me up just fine, which, bottom line, is what they're there for, right?

8. Why would anyone wear a skirt? |
|
Especially these two women who would have to wear stockings for 18 - 20 hours/day. Pantyhose are probably right up there as one of the most uncomfortable undergarments of our times.

13. Only if you never wore garter belts. I remember |
|
those and was thrilled when panty hose came into vogue. Of course at my age it really doesn't matter anymore. When I look into a mirror after a shower I am amazed at how much my body resembles a Sharpei puppy.

It would be tough to hold those suckers up if you have the Sharpei look happening! LOL!!
Regardless, skirts are just a lot of trouble. Pants are so much easier. I love the observation down thread about not having to worry about furry legs. True dat!

...me too! So how come those dimples and folds are so cute on the puppies and not us????
Cellulite and Varicose veins as well as too many runs in the stockings keep me in trousers at all times! But the garter belt reference....yuk, I remember being a young teen and without sports bras or lycra leggings, I had to give up jumping rope--man, that hurt! Especially now at 52 I'd love to not only be able to jump endlessly--BUT RAP as I was doing it!!! (I actually tried jumping the other day and lasted 12 whole minutes without dying!)
Anyway, Title IX saved our butts (literally) from bondage undergarments. Yay us! And as for Hilary and Laura, they both dress like respectable middle-aged women. We need to find other reasons (and there are many) to dis them.

54. ROFLMAO! My favorite answer! |
|
 A Shar-pei puppy! You go, girl! With a sense of humor like that, you should live a long, long time.
When I was younger my waist was tiny and I loved wearing skirts and wide belts. Alas, time takes its toll on all of us -- some more than others. I distinctly remember my 80-year old grandmother's legs were gorgeous -- and no bulgy varicose veins, either. It was 1970, and I doubt the lady owned a pair of slacks, and I'm not sure she owned flat shoes either. She looked darn good for her age.
I, on the other hand, no longer wear skirts because I don't think they flatter me anymore, and I haven't been able to wear high heels for many years because my poor feet are wrecked.
Personally, any woman in public life who wants to wear pant suits is fine by me. Shall we all (ahem) cut them some slack? ;-)

49. Oh yes! I HATE those things! |

I love skirts -- when it's warm enough to do without hose. They're far more comfie than pants for me then.
But come winter, you most likely won't catch me in one. LOL, I went to a wedding hose-free a few years back. Figured everyone would be looking at the bride, not me!

why I always wear pants too? Because they are easier, no need for slips, nylons, and obsessive leg shaving. Pants also look better with comfortable shoes. Comfortable shoes with skirts and dresses look "dowdy." Those are enough reasons for me.

I have great legs, but I always wear pants because they're comfortable. I actually think I look more professional in pants. I also wear comfortable shoes because I don't want bunions and back problems. I don't use makeup either, since I don't like the gunk. News flash: women actually think some things are more important than what men think of their appearance!

They don't want to chance having a Sharon Stone moment, nor have to worry about runs in their nylons, or any other of a number of other possible mishaps.
Plus, they can wear whatever shoes are comfortable with pants and generally be more comfortable

28. I remember, many years ago, a rather well-distributed picture of the hapless Princess Anne |
|
...whose skirt (a big, pleated number) whipped up over her head in a strong wind.
It generated a discussion on the television about how women had weights sewn into the hems of their clothing....I was thinking, Jeez, if the wind were strong enough, all that would do is ensure you get clunked on the head with a hem-full of weights.

Because it's more comfortable? Because it's warmer? Because it's way more practical? Because getting a bout with UTI isn't worth wearing skirts in D.C. in November?
I'm sure that if she looks for pictures of them in formal settings such as dinners etc, they'll be wearing skirts and dresses. Which reminds me of the time back when my brother and I were 4 or 5, and we were getting dressed up for yet another holiday event, and my brother got so miffed because when my sister and I dressed nicely, we got to wear skirts and put our hair in plaits and pigtails, while he had to wear trousers yet again, and nothing special was done with his hair! We have the lovliest pictures of the two of us (we're twins) in skirts and pigtails from that evening.
