Okay! Tell me how Iraq isn't like Vietnam? Bush Crime Family says it Isn't |
|
but to ME it Is!
How is it different? Dem Presidents can't admit they "stepped in it" and a Repug P-Resident who "skipped out of Vietnam" declares he's the new Lyndon Johnson saying "Mission Must Be Accomplished no Matter WHAT it Costs ...because we either fight them over there or over here.
Communists = Islamofascists...a New THREAT for a New Time, I guess.
:eyes: Keep the Population "AT WAR" and you can COVER UP ANYTHING!

vietnam was a proxy war between the US and the soviet union. Similar to the soviet incursion into Afghanistan where we made them bleed by supplying the enemy. Ironically those people were the beginnings of the taliban.
All wars are different. They are all worth evaluating in their own historical context.
imho.

12. That's how Stephen Colbert (on The Colbert Report) distinguishes between the two. |
|
Vietnam = Wet
Iraq = Dry
"It that simple, they are completely different..." (or something like that).:evilgrin:

9. In Vietnam, you couldn't see who was shooting at you. |

In Iraq, you can see them... you just don't know who they are.

17. Well, there are similarities. It's not JUST like Vietnam obviously, but the word quagmire |
|
sure does seem to fit. Or it will if things go on much longer.

18. The great number of enemy wore conventional uniforms |
|
We were fighting against the third largest army in the world at that time, man wise that is. They mostly were in tunnel complexes that stretched throughout both North and South Vietnam while the villages and cities were basically pretty safe places to be. In fact in most cities GIs were not allowed to carry firearms. When we went out into the jungles and highlands we expected contact and always received it, when we were allowed into the cities we had fun and almost never had any problem with enemy but with what we called "cowboys" basically Juvenile Delinquents that rode Hondas around....There are numerous differences but one main similarity. We are occupiers and for that reason we will never win...without winning the hearts and minds of the people and we don't do that by killing and torturing them..
