7. Carlson isn't nutty enough to attract a big audience. |
|
People who watch those shows want hysteria, wild accusations, descriptions of the country going up in flames because of the stupidity of "the liberals" or "the conservatives" or some other group. Carlson, to his credit, doesn't do that sort of thing very well. I'm not a fan of Carlson, but the failure of his show is not something smart people ought to be cheering, because of the reasons it's failing. If Carlson were out there behaving like Glenn Beck he would have much better ratings, and Glenn Beck is a demagogic ass. The failure of Carlson's relatively sane brand of conservatism is a reflection of where our society is, and it's not a flattering reflection at all.

I still think that the people who would watch other cable shows don't have cable. Since it is so expensive only the upper class afford it and that's why Fox leads. Most of the rightwing nutso can afford cable.

12. but he keeps getting time to 'build an audience' |

unlike donahue, who right out of the gate, had nbc execs screaming about his ratings-leading to his cancellation within 6 months
phil drew more viewers than both tucker and joedeadintern, but they've been on the air for years
like, dennis miller, tucker keeps getting myriad chances to fail at TV
