When you log into the internet, what sites do you go to to catch up on the day's events?
Years ago I used to start my daily on-line experience by reading Yahoo's main page. I was a neophyte, so give me a break. I did not know better seven years ago. Now I find myself starting my evening reading with either Huffington Post or Raw Story to get a summary of the main stories of the day, but I suspect there are some other good ones out there I have overlooked. (I hit DU last because this is my guilty pleasure and I want to be informed before commenting on the day's events).

Which sites do you hit first to catch up on the main stories of the day?

5. DU is one of my first stops and certainly
one of my most frequent stops for updates through the day. Some of our news spotters are onto the breaking news much faster than some of the networks, so why waste time!

8. in order - NYT, WP, DU, Daily Kos, Huffington, Raw Story
To me, this is

Mainstream somewhat informed media (often disappointing)
DU and KOS - backstory and extra info that the MSM has missed and will probably cover late if ever
Huffington - the radical chic view
Raw Story - the firebrand, but wait! there's more, if only we could tell you, coverage

I go to DU last because I read the post and comment. It takes a lot longer to go thru all the posts, read and reply. I just go to Huffington and Raw Story etc to get news.

13. Generally, Only DU. It's All I Need.
At work though, since I can't access DU's actual threads (I can just read headers on the Latest page), during lunch I read the Latest page headers and LBN headers, then CNN, then news.google. But at all other times, the only place I need to go is right smackin here.

So is KOS, Raw Story, Huffington post and any other site I would care to go to. Interestingly enough, Rush Limbaugh, Drudge, Fox News, and Hannity are accessible.

26. NYTimes, DU, Talkingpointsmemo and Andrew Sullivan
I follow lots of links too so I hit a bunch more along the way.

I have this theory that the dems can/should/do have our own wedge issues. Reading Sullivan is a great way to find them, a conservative who is pissed at Bush. He also links to all manner of GOP pundit sites (I don't go to the rabid ones, I know they will piss me off).

Our wedge issues? Balance the budget, get the debit under control and personal liberty. There are enough conservatives and libertarians pissed off about those two issues I think we could get them on our team without selling out anything. I even think they would go for some government spending as long as we don't put it on the national credit card.

Then I hit DU GD & LBN and sometimes GD-P. I also usually try to check out Huffington Post, Michael Moore and Wayne Madsen daily. If something big is happening or there's a link to a good piece, I'll read Truthout, Raw Story, Kos or In These Times, but I often don't have time because there is so much to keep up with here and elsewhere. I also regularly hit some other forums to see what's happening: Progressive Independent, Rigourous Intuition, Mike Malloy & Randi Rhodes. Yeah, I know a few of these sites are considered too "CT" for DU but I don't care because I've learned a lot from them. :tinfoilhat:
