Poll question: Whew! How about a gaming poll? |
|
Just curious. Inspired by the PS3 "waiting in line" thread. I did the best I could to include everyone. Please feel free to chime in with specifics, especially if you're an "other". Ages and genders would be interesting. Please tell us if you've ever waited in line at midnight for a game or system. Thank you :)

Just kidding. I actually have a PS2 and XBOX. No plans to get a PS3 or other updated system any time soon though. Most definitely wouldn't wait in line at midnight for one either.

PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. It's my hubby's career but I only answered for myself - more than one modern console, currently.
We don't rush to buy the latest consoles - we get them "eventually," but we did go to a store at midnight for Final Fantasy XII. :D I never really got into PC games. Neither of us is playing a PC title at the moment.

Actually, though, we're buying a Wii sometime this December, to support the idea that a game system doesn't need to include everything but the kitchen sink (and be priced accordingly!) to attract customers.

7. I used to play Atari 2600 when I was a little kid. |
|
I thought that was just THE shit, then Nintendo came out. I loved that too. I got the Super Nintendo, then got tired of buying more and more newer and newer gaming consoles AND rebuying the games. I now play games on my PC. Mostly, I play Runescape and Age Of Empires on my PC nowadays. I certainly cannot think of a game worth standing in line freezing my nips off in the cold all night long. That shit ain't happening.

pack pistols too much to go fight them for it. I'm sure there will be an emulator out in a few years if I become interested. I admit I'd like to be able to afford more games, but the PC games I have pretty much satisfy me when I get time to play them and I do love games. :hi:

Love video games. Been playing since Pong. I have almost every system that came out. No plans to buy PS3 though. Funny thing is I could never get my hubby, my kids or any of my teen-age grandkids interested. My favorites are the Final Fantasy series and Zelda.

I love gaming. I don't so it as much in the last 6 moths or so. My PC isn't up there, I need a better graphics card to handle the real good games, but I play my modded Xbox mostly. I have own or have owned Atari 2600, Intellivision, Commodore 64, Tandy TRS-80, Nintendo, SuperNintendo, Nintendo64, Playstation, Dreamcast, GameCube and Xbox. No plans to buy the 360 yet. The Nintendo Wii looks fun too. My friend is buying one, gonna check it out too.
oops, Stick TurboGrafx 16 in there between Nintendo and Super Nintendo. heheh

14. was a pivotal part of my childhood |
|
and in many ways is still very important to me. i don't go as batshit crazy as i used to, and i'm faaaaaar more jaded than the casual gamer, being an old skooler myself, but i still love 'em. i'm very willing to defend the art and entertainment of video games from baseless accusations. yet i'm also very willing to throw stones when appropriate; our community has plenty of sad things in it and occasionally needs a kick in the ass at times.
never waited in line at midnight for a game or system or movie or sport/concert tix. but i did work at midnight for several game and system releases. that shit is crazy sad. i liked to make fun of the gamers on the other side of the glass door while they were waiting. their general confusion was entertaining, but the occasional envious and tormented gleam was worth far more. :7

15. I dig abandonware and free ware |
|
because they're well, free! Often these are games I had to pass over for being too costly a decade past. Now they're free for the downloading. Coupled with my vintage (paid for) Win98SE, the mountain of this stuff available means I need never spend the wages of an entire day on a computer game again.

I have a PS1, PS2, and plan to get a PS3 as soon as the prices drop. For these devices I play the Tiger Woods PGA series (07 is great!) and the Madden football games.
I also have two PC's hooked together as a LAN that I and my buddies use as flight sims. These are built into a couple of home made cockpits and have full flight gear (stick, throttle, and rudder pedals)for each pit. For these we use a merged install of the IL2 series programs (IL2 Sturmovick, Forgotten Battles, Aces Expansion Pack, and Pacific Battles) to live and die in the virtual sky.
Ain't no more relaxing way to spend a Sat evening than to patrol the skies off the Slot (circa 1943) with a few friends looking for some Zeros and Bettys to bounce. I love that F4U-1 Corsair. What those 6 .50's do to a Zero is a thing of beauty.

26. Well, I'm, retired now so I have the time to devote to flight simming |
|
But I'm more of a prop flyer than a jet jockey. Just locking on a radar blip and flinging off a missile isn't as much fun as boomin' and zoomin' and getting in close on someone's six before you pull the trigger.

33. Yes, in a jet sim, dogfighting is impersonal, but |
|
in a prop sin it ain't by a long shot. You gotta get in close (>100 yrds) before you even think of squeezing the trigger. And that takes out thinking and out-flying the other guy. Which is why I find it a challenge and so much fun.
I enjoy mud moving also. The F4U is well equipped for such a mission, but one of the biggest disappointments in the IL2 series is the inability to fly the PBY as a night bomber. That was something that was done quite often during the war, especially in the South Pacific campaign, and according to accounts I've read quite hairy.

I have an NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance. Nowdays I mostly play stuff on my PC, incuding old console games using a ROM emulator program.

28. For me, It's all about the Zelda |
|
I just love that game. But that's me and when Blogslut Jr. moves out of the house, it will be all about me again.
To make my child happy, I buy the games and consoles that play them. However, I usually buy them used or refurbished or when they've gone on sale. Junior's PS2 is refurbished. Most of the games for it were purchased off the sale/resale rack.
We've agreed. No PS3. Not until it gets to a reasonable price. Even Junior knows the new one is a ripoff. I will buy the new Final Fantasy because it can be played on PS2 and Junior loves that series. The child is 19 and kicking ass in college. I feel no guilt. Junior's interest in video games has led to an interest in the Japanese language and the child can speak it and is a member of the Japanese club at college.
As for the Wii...I totally want one. In fact it's the first time I've wanted the console more than the Zelda. That controller looks like it will be so fun. Let Sony and MS hype their killer graphics and blah, blah, blah. I would rather have fun. Just the same, I'll wait to buy a Wii, probably a good while. I'm like that. I bought the GameCube just last year.

I'd say I'm sick of these people who stereotype video gamers.
But these sort of rubes have been around since the pilgrims landed, and I don't pay them much mind.

Pretty close to every major one made, especially pvp, and beta tested most of them. Currently torn between WOW and EQ2, have friends playing both.
I'm a single working mom, this is the perfect hobby for me. It's cheap. I can socialize, relax and have some fun without having to leave the kids here or pay for a babysitter.
