Embittered Insiders Turn Against Bush - WaPo\MSNBC
<snip>

The weekend after the statue of Saddam Hussein fell, Kenneth Adelman and a couple of other promoters of the Iraq war gathered at Vice President Cheney's residence to celebrate. The invasion had been the "cakewalk" Adelman predicted. Cheney and his guests raised their glasses, toasting President Bush and victory. "It was a euphoric moment," Adelman recalled.

Forty-three months later, the cakewalk looks more like a death march, and Adelman has broken with the Bush team. He had an angry falling-out with Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld this fall. He and Cheney are no longer on speaking terms. And he believes that "the president is ultimately responsible" for what Adelman now calls "the debacle that was Iraq."

Adelman, a former Reagan administration official and onetime member of the Iraq war brain trust, is only the latest voice from inside the Bush circle to speak out against the president or his policies. Heading into the final chapter of his presidency, fresh from the sting of a midterm election defeat, Bush finds himself with fewer and fewer friends. Some of the strongest supporters of the war have grown disenchanted, former insiders are registering public dissent and Republicans on Capitol Hill blame him for losing Congress.

1. Yep - But I wonder what Adelman has done to make up for his part in this?
I and many others who didn't buy one bit of this Iraq War bullshit for a single minute would like for every neo-con, war apologist, fearmonger or anyone responsible in the least for this monumental fuckup to throw himself prostrate before us and ask forgiveness.

2. It's nice to welcome all these right-wingers aboard the anti-war train
however, it'd be nice if just one of them -ONCE- could go, "Shit, you know, you dirty, filthy, peacenik hippies that we kept calling anti-American traitors were right the whole time!"

3. These neo-cons are still delusional
Each one thinks if the administration had listened to some specific idea of theirs, we would have succeeded. It's nonsense. The war was a bad idea. Period. That's why they had to lie to get the public to go along. Adelman or Perle's permutations to Rummy's plan would have failed too. Same with Biden's. Bring our kids home now assholes.

4. I'd feel a whole lot better....
...if so many people hadn't died in the process.

7. Pity the poor neocons and corporatists
Their fabricated war for imperial control and profit didn't succeed. You can bet Adelman wouldn't be complaining if it had.

8. Hope The Next Time I See That Asshat Is In The Hague
...with all his party buddies, having to account for their "cakewalk".

No crocodile tears here for this turncoat...first he turned on our Constitution...knowing of and abetting this invasion and now is turning on his heir "friends"...a pretty pathetic shell of protoplasm. And is he upset about the death and destruction? Nope, there probably wasn't enough. He's not repentant about the invasion, just trying to wipe the blood of his hands.

Sorry, no Schadenfreude here...especially when I think of all the people who needlessly died.
