Vile lame duck governor Romney to lead RALLY against gay marriage today
(AP) BOSTON In a move to publicly pressure lawmakers who have so far ignored him, Gov. Mitt Romney plans to appear at a Statehouse rally on Sunday to demand the Legislature vote on a proposed ballot question that would end gay marriage in Massachusetts.

Lawmakers last week again refused to take up the question at a joint session, voting instead to recess until Jan. 2, which all but killed the measure because a vote then is unlikely.

Romney's spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom, said the fight won't be over until the people vote.

"Legislators made a serious miscalculation," he said. "Their action strikes at the very heart of democracy. No matter how you may feel about the marriage issue, people have a right to participate in their own government."

1. Funny, so do gay people and those who support gay marriage...
Through its inaction, the current legislature is listening to THEM. More or less.

2. Yeah, the whole state is through with "Mitt"
He's done um, let's see, nothing in his whole term. Except travel to southern states to campaign and bash liberal New Englanders.

5. absolutely. and true, legislators have seen it's all good having
equal marriage here. even reasonable repubs have acknowledged that. but you're right it's "more or less," since many chose just to postponed a vote again, to not have to deal with the venom of the phobes here.

peace!

3. he is trash
scum of the earth.

and he has the same phony smile and look in every pic i have seen him in.

<BOSTON - Gov. Mitt Romney is leaving Deval Patrick a few parting gifts on his way out of the Statehouse, but from the governor-elect's perspective, they could turn out to be ticking time bombs.

The outgoing Republican governor is leaving his Democratic replacement with the decision about whether to forge ahead with removing tolls on the Massachusetts Turnpike west of Route 128. He’s also letting him to decide whether to retain $425 million in budget cuts made by Romney, which includes eliminating pet projects favored by a variety of House and Senate members.

In addition, he just completed a safety review of the $14.6 billion Big Dig, in which the governor pointed out everything from a corroded light fixture to a troublesome bridge component holding up 1 million pounds. He also acknowledged it will be Patrick’s responsibility to implement the fixes after he leaves office in January.>

but he wants to have a say in whether some people should be allowed to marry.

8. I have my doubts about Mitt's sanity here.
The era of gay-bashing is over. Well, not the actual bashing, but the idea that it's going to "rally the base" into a frenzy. As Ann Richards once said "that 'ol dog won't hunt." I have fundie relatives and I can tell they've softened a bit. Most of them know a gay person (where two years ago they would not even acknowledge that gays existed). The "base" worked feverishly since 2004 to get George to pass that "marriage protection" amendment. George and Karl left them out in the cold and their will has slackened somewhat. The fundies will move on to immigration and reboot the abortion thing.
MITT: All I can say is: "stick your marriage admendment up where the sun don't shine."

Article 8 Alliance Turns Feral, Attacks Own
Article found on website MassResistance.com:

Yes: Gov. Mitt Romney started same-sex “marriage” in Massachusetts

Same-sex "marriage" is still NOT legal in Massachusetts, and was NOT created by the Supreme Judicial Court's Goodridge ruling.

In fact, it was Governor Mitt Romney who was ultimately responsible for same-sex "marriages" taking place. The Supreme Judicial Court only issued an opinion and advised the Legislature to act (which it never did). Even the Court acknowledged that it had no power to change the law.

Governor Romney created these "marriages" through an unconstitutional and illegal directive to his Department of Public Health (to print new "marriage" licenses), and through his legal counsel threatened to fire any Town Clerk or Justice of the Peace who failed to implement the (non-existent) "new law". He was not required by any constitutional mandate to do these things. On the contrary, his actions clearly violated his oath to uphold the laws of Massachusetts.

Governor Romney has it within his powers to rectify these serious unconstitutional acts which have done so much harm to our state and country. He can reverse these fraudulent policies before the end of his term. And he can issue an Executive Order correcting the misinterpation of the law and rightfully declaring these unlawful “marriages” null and void.

(Moreover, the Massachusetts Constitution does not need to be amended. The proposed Constitutional Amendment would make things much worse. It would effectively legitimize the current illegitimate same-sex “marrriages” by assuming that the Goodridge decision had changed the law, and by its wording only bans future same-sex “marriages”.)~End Article

Commentary: We have been told by these same people, like Tyler Dawbin, who is a self-proclaimed member of Article 8 Alliance, for over a year that they do not want to see our gay marriages dissolved, they just want to put our right to marry to a vote. They say the vote will not change the status of our marriages that have already been given, but as you can read, they don't really intend to leave it at that. We should thank these people for this article as it can be used later if Romney decides in his hubris that he is going to be the next king of America.
