A retired four-star general who worked closely with the first Bush Administration told me that the Gates nomination means that Scowcroft, Baker, the elder Bush, and his son “are saying that winning the election in 2008 is more important than the individual. The issue for them is how to preserve the Republican agenda. 7. I don't think the Bush "family" would shed tears if Cheney fell ill...

Health problems would be the graceful way out for everyone involved. But if that doesn't happen soon, I am guessing that Cheney will still be leaving far enough ahead of 2008 to give Rice a chance to establish herself as the VP.

Junior Bush values loyalty to him, but he will not be sacrificing himself for Cheney. Heck, being the coward he is Junior will probably arrange to be at the pig farm or even overseas when the sh~t hits the fan with Cheney.

8. It would not be surprising if we find out that pressure

is being applied to Cheney to step down due to his heart problem. He has been sleeping a lot in various public meetings which indicates that he is either not getting sleep at night or is having heart problems.
