Condi: US Concerned With Chinese Military Buildup

<snip>

“There are concerns about China’s military buildup,” Rice told a television interviewer. “It’s sometimes seemed outsized for China’s regional role.”

So should we add China to the list of countries that are doing something militarily that we don't approve of, but apparently can do little to stop?

10. too bad there's nothing we can do about it
military's busy, ...no money's left, ... government's distracted,... Americans are watching TV and playing video games,....

The Chinese own this country anyway, so it's all good.

13. even if we could do something about it
is this how one proceeds?

is this the best we can do in terms of diplomacy? publicly calling out another country? shouldn't this sort of thing be done quietly? Isn't publicly calling out another country -- potentially humiliating the other country -- step 63 or so in the rules of diplomacy?

11. We start acting like the conquering Mongols
and we wonder why people might be bolstering their militaries? Who could have forseen. A blind, dead man could.

12. The "Yellow Peril" returns.
“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” H.L. Mencken

sure they're building their military, and soon they'll be using the same excuse that we do = that they have to protect the foreign interests...what a duuph she is, she should be loosing sleep at night worrying the chinese don't call in all the markers :eyes:

there are fates worse than death, and 'condi' rice seems to be preparing this nation for none of them :thumbsdown:
