Q. so why is a review of HAPPY FEET in the GD forum?
A. BECAUSE THESE WINGNUTS ARE TRYING TO POLITICIZE IT!

"Shock Corridor" for Kids

*snip*
The effort to mask this reality with talk about “singing and dancing in the aisles” may succeed in bringing in large, eager audiences for the film’s opening weekend (parents are always hungry for kid-friendly animated entertainment) but once the word-of-mouth kicks in, watch for the quick box-office collapse of “Happy Feet.” No other recent release so richly deserves to fail. Perhaps that all-but-inevitable rejection will send a message that the American people don’t welcome the idea that our entertainment-crazed kids should be held hostage to the political agendas, dark obsessions and dishonest marketing campaigns of irresponsible filmmakers and unscrupulous studios.

Don't Be Misled by Crappy Feet

*snip*
There’s also a bizarre anti-religious bias operating unmistakably and gratuitously in the film. The penguin protagonist (known as “Mumbles Happy Feet”) finds himself harshly treated by the aged leaders of the flock, who worship a false God called “the Great Wind” and decry and persecute anyone who dares to challenge their “sacred” traditions. The voice of Robin Williams (in one of his two parts) also portrays a great religious guru and sage who turns out to be a complete phony, with no special knowledge of any kind. When intrepid penguins finally make contact with the “aliens” (otherwise known as humans) the first menacing structure they see is a church.

5. Medved must have shares of a tin-foil manufacturing company
What he wrote would be funnier if it wasn't so pathetic.

6. a review from an 8 yo
It was really good. It was about a penguin who got dropped as an egg and couldn't sing but he could tap dance really good. And the aliens - but they were really people - were stealing their fish - and the penguing got everybody to tapdance and the explorer guys saw them and then they saved them.

The meaning is you - if you can't do one thing good - you can do something else really good and that's good, too and people should like you for that thing - and not not like for what you can't do good.

As an aside, I heard some other parents on a 2e group I'm on, saying this movie epitomized 2e kids.

(I haven't seen it yet, btw.)

It was absolutely adorable. I thought it was great.

My husband said there was too much singing but I loved all the singing.

Our daughter loved it too!

9. Can someone PM me the ending?
Subject: Can someone PM me the ending...
Message:
...If someone would be so kind...

Our daughter didn't feel well. We have to leave right after they showed Mumbles
with the transmitter on his back. He was reassuring the flock that the people
would find him and help the whole group. However, the rest of the penguins
weren't too happy with Mumbles.

Can anyone fill me in? Thanks so much.

I loved it.

There were political overtones--and some obvious commentary that was against
certain types of religion. As a religious person, I wasn't threatened by that
though. However, someone who insists that they know everything about God--and
have all of the answers--would certainly be threatened.

The environmental stuff was spot on. We ARE culling fish from the ocean and
leaving wildlife with fewer options. Birds are feeding on penguins because
the fish stocks have been reduced. We do rape the land and the oceans.

The movie was quite dark in certain scenes. However, it was the truth.

Did Medved--a grown man--really say the words, "Crappy Feet"?

Again, thanks for any ending info! :)

10. This criticism says it all
"4) As in so many other recent films, there’s a subtext that appears to plead for endorsement of gay identity. Mumbles (the voice of Elijah Wood) displeases his parents and the leaders of his community because he’s born different, and makes an impassioned plea that he can’t possibly change – and they should accept him as he is."

Yes, according to Medved, preaching individuality to children is a bad thing. Kids should REALLY be learning to conform to the status quo and become soul-less automatons....or else they're gay.

11. Damn! They're on to us...penguins were our ruse to convert Xtians to Satanists.

Medved proves my point that Repuke Xtians are IDIOTS deserving craploads of derision and scorn.

17. I'm sensing the genesis of a satire site...
Project Waddle is ripe for a background story and graphics.

We've already got a theme band.

now my feet will be happy to see it. On IMAX. Kiss my ass Medved. Oh and I'm sure the $42 million dollar opening weekend, beating out Casino Royale, was just a fluke... hehe.
