My heart wants impeachment. It is hard to imagine a President deserving impeachment more than Bush does. After watching the best President of my cogent lifetime impeached for being less than honest about a hummer, it hurts my heart to think a President who lied us into a seemingly never ending war get off scotfree. But my head knows what a purely partisan impeachment will accomplish. Nothing. We should investigate Bush as long and as hard as we can. We should publicly expose the horrors he has caused. After that one would hope that the country and some Republicans will fall behind impeachment. A partisan impeachment, even of a President who richly deserves it, won't survive history well. If you doubt me, look up Andrew Johnson. The man was a border line traitor and a definate Confederate sypathizer, but the hero of the impeachment is the Republican senator who bucked his party and refused to vote to remove Johnson and saved his Presidency.
My heart would love to see marriage equality but thanks to the structure of the Senate that won't happen. What my head thinks we might see is ENDA and hate crimes legislation. We should make the Republicans veto and filibuster popular legislation or let it pass. Marriage equality, let the judges do it.
My heart wants it all, my head wants what I can get. Played well, we might even get most of both.
