Supporters of gay marriage defended lawmakers' procedural move.

"One of the tenets of the Constitution is that you do not put the rights of a minority up for a popularity contest," said Mark Solomon, campaign director of Mass Equality, a pro-gay marriage group. "It is one of the very principles this country was founded upon."

how it's "judicial activism" when the Mass SC orders the state to give same sex couples equal marriage rights, but it's NOT "judicial activism" when you petition the Mass SC to take the extraordinary step of ordering an anti gay measure to be put on a statewide ballot referendum.

when gays have the right to decide whether or not heterosexuals can marry, then heterosexuals can decide whether or not gays can marry. That sounds fair to me. Let's just try it for a few years, ok?
