New Department of Health and Human Services appointee does not believe in Contraception
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/18/AR2006111800817.html

ERIC KEROACK is the medical director of an antiabortion "pregnancy counseling" center that refuses to distribute contraceptives or encourage their use -- even by married couples. The organization, called "A Woman's Concern," says it is "persuaded that the crass commercialization and distribution of birth control is demeaning to women, degrading of human sexuality, and adverse to human health and happiness." It believes -- despite abundant evidence to the contrary -- that making birth control available, "especially among adolescents, actually increases (rather than decreases) out-of-wedlock pregnancy and abortion."

These views would be merely bizarre were it not for this additional disturbing fact: Dr. Keroack, an obstetrician-gynecologist, is about to start work at the Department of Health and Human Services, overseeing federally funded family planning programs. To put it simply, the Bush administration's choice to direct the federal effort to make contraceptives available to low-income women works for a group that doesn't support using contraception. What comes next -- a science adviser who doesn't believe in evolution?...

2. Read this a few days ago and got a good laugh at it.
I am old enough to recall sighing a paper to say I was not stable so a doctor could tell me about birth control. Yap it is true and right in the dear old state of Conn. Carry over from the church run society and Sunday blue laws I bet but not sure of that. I am old but that was in the life time of some one that is still around so many of us women know what this is all about. Control.

3. Calling all women Reps and Senators!
Surely some Congressional committee can hold hearings on this! Joining them should be plenty of men (Henry Waxman being one outstanding example!).

Shine the light of day on this travesty and the travesties before it, on EC and sex ed. Drag it into the sunshine so the country can see what shit it is. Then poof! there goes the next generation of young Republicans!

Thanks for giving me my morning rant...

4. So would this guy be what Bill O'reilly calls a "culture warrior?"
Every day Bush finds a new way to embarrass this country. This guy is obviously not qualified for the job.We need a someone who heads the Department of Health and Human Services to believe a women can do whatever she wants to with her body. I don't think that is too much to ask for. Barry Goldwater would be spinning in his grave if he saw what the Republican party has become.
