All those complaining about the Draft and how it can affect them

1. 'Bring on the draft' plays right into the rethugs hands
as the MSM enablers will frame it to cause the dems much suffering.

6. It doesn't play into anyone's hands but Rangles
I'm not worried about any faux suffering. This nation is truly suffering with this war. If you support the war, fight it. Otherwise let's end it.

14. I'm all for ending it, immediately and without question
I am, however, against reinstating the draft.

2. You are killing the patient to save him
The draft strikes a blow against the idea that America is a free country. It is involuntary servitude. A fascist idea.
A draft does not end war, it just encourages bigger, longer, and stupider wars.

7. Wrong

The Draft has nothing to do with Freedom. Many "free" countries have compulsory military service. It's one of the contributions to a civil society. Here is a list of countries with conscription. Of those countries none have bil, long, stupid wars (not counting South Korea as a technicality). A couple have short stupid wars.

7.1 Austria
7.2 Belarus
7.3 Bermuda
7.4 Brazil
7.5 Bulgaria
7.6 Chile
7.7 China (PRC)
7.8 Croatia
7.9 Cyprus
7.10 Denmark
7.11 Egypt
7.12 Eritrea
7.13 Finland
7.14 Germany
7.15 Greece
7.16 Iran
7.17 Israel
7.18 Korea, South
7.19 Lebanon
7.20 Malaysia
7.21 Mexico
7.22 Norway
7.23 Poland
7.24 Russia
7.25 Serbia and Montenegro
7.26 Singapore
7.27 Sweden
7.28 Switzerland
7.29 Taiwan (ROC)
7.30 Turkey
7.31 Ukraine
7.32 Venezuela

4. It proves absolutely NOTHING here on DU,
where 99.9% of us, give or take a few freepers, have always been against the war.

All this does is make it look like Dems support the neocons' permanent war and imperialism for America insanity.

5. A lack of logic there.
There are not many pro-war folks on DU. Hence, the call for a draft has not changed anything on DU.

9. You must have missed the whines about Dems sending people away
"The Dems are bringing back the draft." It's on the first page and the greatest page.

17. It has made those that are listening more attentive
Those that are active, more activist (at least for the last 24 hours). It has made a difference.

8. Giving Bush the manpower from a draft will only widen the war.
Bush will use the extra forces to start another war. The draft is not what we need while these imbeciles are in power.

12. Draftees mostly won't be ready in time for Bush.
It will take 6 months to fire up draft boards, identify and assign draftees. It will then take another 6 months of basic training before they're available. Bush wouldn't have access very long.

All these people that want to expand the wars, send more troops, fight in other places should put their money where their mouth's are.

10. I fail to see how that is true
Edited on Mon Nov-20-06 09:42 AM by bluestateguy
I have opposed this war since Day One. I opposed the Iraq War before opposing the Iraq War was cool. I marched in protests three times against this war.

Would a draft increase anti-war agitation? Sure it would, but you forget that thousands of others would dutifully march off to war for no other reason than that the government simply says they have to go. Millions of people in this country will do whatever authority figures tell them to do without question.
