Needed: More like Santorum
This is your brain. This is your brain in a sheep. Any questions?

Needed: More Like Santorum
November 20, 2006

Rick Santorum lost on Election Day. He is, but no longer will be, a U.S. senator from Pennsylvania (my native state).

Santorum is a good example of what all Catholic politicians should be, but very few are. He is loyal and obedient to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

All Catholics have a serious obligation to give total and unconditional loyalty and obedience to the teaching authority of the church in all matters of faith and morals. Obedience is the essence of Catholicism. Most Catholic politicians do not believe this. This is nothing less than tragic. Equally tragic is that, among Catholics in general, dissent and disobedience have been widespread for decades.

There is an old saying: An ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness. The Catholic Church has an abundance of clever people. It needs loyal people. It needs lots of them. It needs people like Rick Santorum. So does America.

Francis doesn't seem to understand the message sent by the voters in Santorum's thumpin'.

1. there's a reason that that's an "old saying"--
"An ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness"-- because in the modern world, cleverness beats conservatism every time.

2. Yeah, it doesn't require even an ounce of cleverness to blindly obey
It's scary that this guy thinks we need MORE of this in government!

3. Democracy and Catholicism can't co-exist
if we follow the letter writer's logic. Democracy says that power flows from the people up, not from the top (even God) down.

6. Anybody who is intolerant and favors wars
Has nothing to do with Catholicism and the teaching of Jesus. Obvious to anyone who's not a pathetic bigot.

Fodder for fascists. Don't think, just obey. Wow.

And by the way, the late Pope condemned the war in Iraq. Interesting how the right seem to want people to follow their religious leaders just when it suits right-wing causes, and not otherwise.
