Something that got past me in one of last night's draft threads:
Several people plugged a universal draft as a way of forcing different classes in America to interact just like back in the "Good War". Several other people said people who wanted to go to college first should be forced into ROTC. Wouldn't this result in a hardening of class boundaries as the poor become cannon fodder and the rich become an officer corps? Of course, the middle class would all be wiped out as their kids become first lieutenants.

Even if civilian jobs were included as part of a universal service scheme, guess who would end up with a shovel in their hands and who would get to sit in an office and look at a computer screen all day?
