Christian Newswire: Jesus making a comeback! Christchild CREEPING BACK into Xmas!
Edited on Mon Nov-20-06 05:23 PM by Bluebear

(And is He mad!)
===========
By Dr. Ted Baehr

HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- I believe our nation is on the threshold of a major revival, perhaps not equaled since the Great Awakening. The signs are there – some of them subtle, some not-so-subtle. One important sign is what appears to be the re-emergence of Jesus Christ in Christmas.

Christians have long known that it is more important to be “correct” than “politically correct.” Christmas is about Christ, and that is “correct,” accurate and true to history and tradition. Santa Claus, reindeer, wreaths, Christmas trees are fine, but what it is all about is the birth of the Messiah. Christmas heralds the turning point in history.

There is now evidence that our prayers over the last few years are being answered. Hollywood, Big Business – they seem to be finally getting the message: There are believers out there! God is alive and well in the popular culture!

Yes, the Christ-child is creeping back into Christmas. No, let me rephrase that – Christ is marching triumphantly back into Christmas. Hollywood is recognizing it, as are Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Sears, Macy’s and others.

The tide is starting to turn.

2. Strange Christianity
Get up off your knees, fat boy. Stop praying for Christmas.

You won't have to go far or look very long to find someone in trouble.
Help them.

You are making Christianity look silly and stupid, fat boy.

But I do like the jacket. ;)

8. I'm still trying to figure out which "Great Awakening" he was
referring to - 1st or 2nd. Probably 2nd, since that's when all the fundy nutjobs started coming out of the woodwork (or the woods . . .)

12. It's the corporate Jesus.
The one that wants you to spend yourselves into bankruptcy every December.

I don't see how a store can present the "real" Christmas by calling a tree a Christmas tree and a sale a Christmas sale. The real Christmas is NOT about buying things. It isn't found in any store.

I'm for having Christmas with family and calling every materialistic thing in the store a holiday thing. I just don't get how the religious leaders are so big on associating the biggest merchandising gimmick of the year with Christ. It seems like they should be trying to separate them, not link them.

7. Jesus Christ....
"Christ is marching triumphantly back into Christmas. Hollywood is recognizing it, as are Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Sears, Macy’s and others."

Well, as long as Wal-Mart and Macy's say it's about Jesus, I guess that makes it all better.

9. Declarations like this always make me queasy
The Christ-child is MARCHING back to take Christmas back! As SOLDIERS for Jesus, we need to be doing so-and-so! Military language and the Jesus I know don't really go together.

10. why don't they just put the baby jeebus on a stick
and shake him at the ignant native savages?

Oh wait, I get it . . . . .

I suspect these shove-jeebus-down-yer-throat-types on the whole are all a little dim. Left to their own devices they would be "correct" and burn the rest of us heathens at the stake, just like they've been doing for the past 2000 years, while pissing on about how persecuted they are.

15. I wonder if it means freepers will start to walk the walk and be decent
& loving people again. Cause that is what Jesus was about. Big Love. Crossing boundaries and taking care of the poor and isolated. Seems Rush Limpballs is the antithesis. We will know if Jesus is having an effect with his comeback when we see the right wing pundit numbers go down. That will be the sign he is back.

17. Wel, if you want to be REALLY traditional...
http://www.simpletoremember.com/vitals/Christmas_TheRealStory.htm

Roman pagans first introduced the holiday of Saturnalia, a week long period of lawlessness celebrated between December 17-25. During this period, Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the weeklong celebration. The festival began when Roman authorities chose “an enemy of the Roman people” to represent the “Lord of Misrule.” Each Roman community selected a victim whom they forced to indulge in food and other physical pleasures throughout the week. At the festival’s conclusion, December 25th, Roman authorities believed they were destroying the forces of darkness by brutally murdering this innocent man or woman.

<snip>

The problem was that there was nothing intrinsically Christian about Saturnalia. To remedy this, these Christian leaders named Saturnalia’s concluding day, December 25th, to be Jesus’ birthday.

Christians had little success, however, refining the practices of Saturnalia. As Stephen Nissenbaum, professor history at the University of Massachussetts, Amherst, writes, “In return for ensuring massive observance of the anniversary of the Savior’s birth by assigning it to this resonant date, the Church for its part tacitly agreed to allow the holiday to be celebrated more or less the way it had always been.” The earliest Christmas holidays were celebrated by drinking, sexual indulgence, singing naked in the streets (a precursor of modern caroling), etc.

21. Common practices of the Catholic church
Edited on Mon Nov-20-06 05:53 PM by TlalocW
Move in, take over the traditions, and replace the natives' gods with saints, and voila, everyone's going to Heaven!

Worked pretty well except for Halloween, which they never were quite successful at putting a religious spin on.

18. Great tie. Great jacket. AND great blue shirt to top it all off.
Sooooooooo. 'Christ is marching back into Christmas'... Marching back from where? Obviously, our born-again friends need our help. I am fearful that they are looking for Christ at the Walmart, aren't you!!!!111

IMHO, I think all TRUE Christians should
stop exchanging Christmas gifts,
stop decorating Christmas trees,
stop hanging wreathes on their doors,
stop singing Christmas Carols that don't include Jesus' name,
stop allowing their children to watch any Christmas specials or movies (esp animations!!!111) that don't specifically tell the Nativity story,
stop putting cookies/candy in their shoes on St. Nicholas Day,
stop their children from talking about or visiting Santa in malls,
stop attending or participating in Christmas parades...

What did I miss? Unless an activity has specific relation to the Nativity that supposedly happened in December, Year 4, it is not authorized Christian activity any longer. Let's really have a Christian Christmas folks! Whadyasay? Are you with me!!1111 This will be HUGH!!!!11! Let's help the Christians keep Christmas Christian.

26. Obviously, you are lost and have a hole in your soul.
Holiday = A very wrong word to describe holy days at the end of the year. Stop celebrating "holidays" before its too late for your immortal soul!1 This is very very series!1111!!!!

19. It's so much easier to talk about the War on Christmas and complain
About places not allowing manger scenes, schools not forcing kids to pray how you want, etc. instead of actually trying to follow the tenets that Jesus talked about. Lip service, punishing people who say, "Happy Holidays," and making sure a plastic doll gets to sit in the town square will get us to Heaven.

I have a feeling if Jesus came back to give a talk to these people, he would be asking them, "Why have you expended so much energy over nothing? Why are you not clothing your fellow man? Why are there still hungry people in the world? Why do you think I would want your retailers punished for their choice of greeting instead of the sick cared for?"

22. So we'll be seeing y'all at Mass Christmas Eve then?
And then again at Matin's and Vespers on Christmas Day to bracket the day in observance of the Holy occasion.

But y'all are heretics and therefore far more interested in the appearance of Christianity than the practice. That's why you give a rat's ass what WalMart does for Christmas. Last time Christmas was on a Sunday you closed your churches. Nuff said.

Every year Jesus and Mithras stop by my place on their common birthday and party until January 6.
I guess they didin't make it to the Doctor Ted's place this year.
